How I can Help

I work with individuals and families in crisis. I act as a consultant for therapists, physicians and other health care providers regarding their patients with severe disorders. I am also a consultant for employers and organizations dealing with mental health issues, including Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD)

If anyone is in immediate danger - call 911 now!

For Families:

Immediate crisis consultation: If you or a family member is in crisis right now, call 415-440-5505 or 888-744-2747 (outside San Francisco) and leave a message. I'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Initial crisis consultation: This is when you tell me what's going on and I give you my initial impressions and recommendations.

On-going consultation: Many families and individuals find that periodic or weekly consultations are helpful for managing a mental health problem. Call 415-440-5505 or 888-744-2747 to set up an appointment.

The "mobile crisis" intervention approach: When it is time to act, many families find it beneficial to have me present. In this way, I am able to oversee and coordinate the plan, support those organizing the intervention, and coordinate with other professionals. I can be available for as long as I am needed. I travel throughout the USA as well as abroad.

Involuntary hospitalization: I coordinate with you, health care providers, and local authorities (such as police and hospitals) if involuntary hospitalization is necessary.

For Providers:

Crisis consultation: Many clinicians consult with me regularly about patients who present signs of crisis. I can help you assess difficult or potentially dangerous situations that come up in a general practice. Call 415-440-5505 or 888-744-2747 to set up a consultation.

For Employers & Organizations:

Dealing with people in trouble: Often, the person in crisis will seek out someone they trust to confide in - such as a supervisor, colleague, or co-worker. Should you find yourself cast in this role, I can help you understand the context of their difficulty and teach you how to guide the person toward appropriate avenues for help. Call 415-440-5505 or 888-744-2747 to set up a consultation.

Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD): When a trauma or tragedy has affected a group of people it is essential to be able to return to the original status quo as soon as possible. As the CISD facilitator, my goal is to normalize the feelings associated with the experience and identify any individuals who may need extra support in coping with the trauma.

Lectures and presentations: I am available to talk with your organization about what a crisis is and how to identify people in trouble. I can also discuss community resources available for mental health, mental health law and involuntary hospitalization, and other issues that concern your organization.

For Individuals:

Initial consultation: If you are struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, anxiety, or other forms of psychological distress (see Crisis Conditions), and would like to discuss your concerns with someone who has helped many people in your situation, I am available via phone or in person. Call me at 415-440-5505 or 888-744-2747 to set up an appointment.

Ongoing therapy: If you live in California, I can work with you on an ongoing basis to help you manage your current situation with the goal of feeling more comfortable, secure, and productive in your day-to-day life. I am available for ongoing therapy via phone or in person.
