DLOY Regimental Headquarters 1992

Lt Col Simon Stewart QDG was the last commanding Officer of The Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry and along with the team at RHQ he over-saw the winding down of the regiment before heading north to establish a new regiment - The Scottish Yeomanry. I arrived at Chorley as Regimental 2IC in January 1992 returning from ERE at 42 Inf Bde HQ. The announcement of the loss of RHQ and reduction of the squadrons into one squadron of a new regiment to be named The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry triggered the major administrative process. As President of the Officers Mess Committee I worked with Majors Cliff Godby (Secretary) and John Patterson (Treasurer) to close down the mess and with the CO and key players in RHQ I assisted in selection of the members of the one new squadron from all those keen to continue service in DLOY.
