No 16 Squadron
No 16 Sqn wurde am 1. März 1958 auf RAF Laarbruch aufgestellt.
Die ersten Canberra B(i)8 wurden im Februar geliefert, weitere kamen im März und April von RAF Wildenrath.
Am 6. Juni 1972 wurde die Staffel aufgelöst und am 16. Oktober neu aufgestellt mit der Buccaneer S2B. Seit 1972 hat die Staffel zwei Mal die Salmond Trophy (Wettbewerb im Bombenzielwurf) gewonnen.
Die Langstreckenfähigkeit der Bucccaneer wurde u.a. voll ausgenutzt bei der Teilnahme der Staffel an 6 Red Flag Manövern in den USA, 3 Maple Flag Manövern in Kanada sowie bei 7 Übungscamps auf Sardinien.
Die Staffel wurde im Januar 1984 neu mit dem Panavia Tornado GR1 ausgerüstet als 5. Tornado Staffel der RAF bzw. als 2. Tornado Staffel der RAF Germany.
Der Spitzname der 16. Staffel lautet "The Saints" (die Heiligen) wegen ihrer ersten Aufstellung im französischen St. Omer im Ersten Weltkrieg. Das inoffizielle Strichmännchenlogo wurde in den 60er Jahren angenommen. Das Logo konnte ab dann auf den Flugzeugen der Staffel gefunden werden so wie auch als Emblem auf dem rechten Ärmel der Fliegerkombinationen.
On March 1st 1958 the Squadron was formed at Royal Air Force Laarbruch equipped with Canberra B(i)8, the first ones being delivered in February 1958. More arrived from RAF Wildenrath in March and April.
On 6 June 1972, the Squadron disbanded and on 16 October 1972 was reformed with the Buccaneer S2B aircraft. Since 1972, the Squadron has twice won the Salmond Bombing Trophy and retains the Trophy in the Squadron Crewroom. The long range capability of the Buccaneer aircraft has been fully utilised with the Squadron part in 6 Red Flag Exercises in the United States of America, 3 Maple Flag Exercises in Canada and 7 Armament Practice Camps in Sardinia.
The Squadron re-equipped with the Tornado in January 1984 as the Royal Air Force's 5th Tornado Squadron and the 2nd Royal Air Force Germany Squadron.
The squadron has been known as the 'Saints' due to its formation at Saint Omer. The unofficial stickman logo was adopted in the 1960s.
This logo could be found on many 16 Squadron aircraft and as badges worn on the right arm of flying suits.

Listed here are all the B(I)8 Canberras (extract 16 Sqn) that were produced in the UK. The majority of these Canberras served with the RAF's Strike Squadrons in Germany from the mid 1950s until the early 1970s. Swapping of aircraft between the strike squadrons was fairly common.

Die in den Station F540 erwähnte Vierer-Abschiedsformation am 31. Mai 72 bestand aus WT336, WT339, XM244 und XM269, der letzte “operationelle” Einsatz soll vom Staffelkapitän am 1. Juni 72 mit der WT346 geflogen worden sein.
