220 Signal Squadron
220 SIGNAL Squadron is part of 21 Signal Regiment (Air Support). Based in Colerne, Wiltshire the Regiment supports the RAF in a number of communication areas. The Squadron's role is to provide communication support to the RAF in Germany and is achieved by Airfield Signal Troops based at each of the RAF airfields in Germany, an Airfield Communications Planning Office at JHQ and O Troop, the Support Helicopter (SH) Communication Troup.
The Squadron Headquarters moved from RAF Wildenrath to Laarbruch in June 1992 and is located in Compound 116 as are the rest of the Royal Signals personnel on the Station.
L Troop, the Airfield Signals Troop for Laarbruch. is commanded by a Captain and has approximately 40 Telecommunication Mechanics. It is this Troop that is responsible for the provision, maintenance and repair of all the airfield's bearer communication systems (less radio and radar).
H Troop at RAF Brüggen has the same role as L Troop but both need proper central planning for the larger scale communication projects. This planning is provided by the Airfield Communications Planning Office at JHQ.
Also based at RAF Laarbruch is O Troop, a radio troop consisting of a Captain and 28 Telecommunication Operator Telegraphists and Radio. This Troop provides a forward element of the Regiment's support to the RAF Support Helicopter Force. On large exercises O Troop is reinforced by 244 Signal Squadron which is moving to No 2 Group from Colerne in the UK.
Die 220. Signal Staffel ist Teil des 21. Signal Regiments (Luftunterstützung). Stationiert in Colerne, Wiltshire, unterstützt das Regiment die Royal Air Force in einer Anzahl von Vernetzungsgebieten. Die Einsatzrolle der Staffel ist es, Unterstützung im Bereich der Kommunikation der RAF in Deutschland zu leisten. Diese wird aufrecht erhalten durch die Flugplatz-Signal-Truppen, die es auf jeder RAF-Basis in Deutschland gibt sowie ein Planungsbüro am JHQ (Joint Headquarters - Vereintes Hauptquartier) und den O Trupp zur Unterstützung der Support-Helikopter (SH).
Das Staffelhauptquarier wurde im Juni 1992 von RAF Wildenrath nach Laarbruch verlegt und befindet sich im Gebäude 116 ebenso wie der Rest des Royal Signals Personals.
Der L Trupp, die Flugplatz-Signal Einheit für Laarbruch, wird befehligt von einem Captain und hat eine Stärke von etwa 40 Telekommunikationsmechanikern. Diese Einheit ist verantwortlich für die Zur-Verfügungstellung, Unterhaltung und Reparatur aller Kommunikationssysteme auf dem Flugplatz (außer Funk und Radar).
Der H Trupp auf RAF Brüggen hat das gleiche Einsatzspektrum wie der L Trupp, aber beide sind auf eine angemessene Planung für größere Kommunikationsprojekte angewiesen. Diese Planung wird durch das Flugplatz-Planungsbüro am Hauptquartier geleistet.
Auf RAF Laarbruch ist auch der O Trupp stationiert, ein Fernsprecheinheit, die aus einem Captain und 28 Telekommunikationsspezialisten. Diese Einheit stellt den der RAF Unterstützungs-Helikopter-Streitmacht angegliederten Teil des RAF-REgiments dar. Bei größeren Übungen wird der O Trupp verstärkt durch die 244. Signal Staffel, die dann von Colerne, UK verlegt wird und der 2. Gruppe unterstellt wird.
