Student Teacher of the Year Recipients, 2015-16

Christine Blangiforti, Fall 2015

Christine Blangiforti is a Chldhood Education major with a concentration in math. Her supervising professor, Dr. Karleen Goubeaud, describes her as “a caring teacher, who has a natural ability to interact with students in ways to promote their learning.” Christine’s cooperating teacher also wrote, “She is a natural teacher and one of the best student teachers I ever had. She was always willing to develop knowledge and skills to provide the best learning experiences for students. The children really took to her.”

As a young girl, Christine knew that she wanted to be a teacher. In her application, she wrote, “I truly believe that I was born to teach. My passion for teaching continues to grow stronger. As a teacher, I hope to inspire children and to make a difference towards my students’ learning.”

Deanna Albro, Spring 2016

Deanna Albro is a Music Education Major. While student teaching, her university supervisor, Gwendolyn Carroll, wrote, “she is making an invaluable contribution to the students in both the elementary and secondary placements by bringing to these classroom settings new trends and current approaches. Her capabilities as a teacher and a motivator of youth involvement in school music activities have been an inspiration to us all.” Her cooperating teacher was also “impressed with her enthusiasm, dedication, and love of music education.”

Deanna shared, “Throughout my student teaching semester, I have gained a sense of validation in my career choice. I feel comfortable and excited in front of a class or choir, and there is a constant transfer of enthusiasm between myself and my students.” We can clearly see why Deanna was invited to conduct a piece for the Freshman Choir and to introduce new pieces to both the Freshman Choir and Woman’s Choir. Deanna also wrote, “The skills I have acquired throughout my undergraduate experiences have been enhanced and that the influence of my cooperating teachers, including elements of individualized instruction has become essential to my teaching philosophy, providing students with tools that will help them be musically literate and independent.
