About the 2017 Excelsior Lecturer

Svitlana Mayboroda's research interests lie at the intersection of harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, geometric measure theory, and applied mathematics.

She holds an M.Sc. in applied mathematics from Kharkiv National University in her hometown Kharkiv, Ukraine, and in 2005 she earned a PhD in mathematics at the University of Missouri. She held postdoctoral positions at Ohio State University, Australian National University, and Brown. In 2008 she became a faculty member at Purdue University, an in 2011 she moved to University of Minnesota, where she currently holds a distinguished full professor position (Northrop Professor).

In 2010 Svitlana was awarded the Alfred P. Sloane fellowship, and in 2011 she received the NSF CAREER Award. In addition she holds two NSF awards for interdisciplinary research: INSPIRE and MRSEC. In 2015 she won the first Sadosky Prize (for women in analysis) from the Association for Women in Mathematics and has been named a fellow of the AMS. In 2018 she will be spending a semester at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, under the auspices of the prestigious Von Neumann fellowship.
