Robert "Bob" Douglas Root, 69, of Norman, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. He was born Dec. 18, 1945, in Sulphur. He was raised by his grandmother, Dorothy Davenport. His parents are Billy Donald and Loretta Mae (Davenport) Johnson. On April 10, 1971, he married Alice Kirschner in Norman. Robert served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved to go antiquing with Alice, as well as traveling and RVing. He had taken each of his grandchildren on their own special trip. His hobbies included playing cards, especially Spades and Hearts; going to the casino; fishing, particularly at Lake Texoma; playing fast pitch softball; cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers with his sons; but above all, he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Alice of 44 years; sons Brian (Kristina) Root of Noble and Matt (Sara) Root of Norman; grandchildren Alisha, Kaitlin, Lauren, Alicen, Reagan and Bella; siblings Peggy (Charles) Stowe of Kingston, Billy Michael (Ginger) Johnson of Azle, Texas; mother-in-law, Cherry Kirschner of Norman; many nieces and nephews; and "fur"-children Ella and Ruby. He was preceded in death by his grandmother; parents; brother, Don Furbee; and father-in-law, Terry Kirschner. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter Ave. in Norman. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Norman Community Church of the Nazarene, 1801 N. Porter Ave. in Norman. Burial will follow at Denver Cemetery in Norman.
