My short vita

I did my basic and undergraduate studies in Niger (“Maîtrise” in linguistics, 1985) and graduate studies at The University at Buffalo (Masters, 1989 and PhD, 1992). I have taught linguistics at the Abdou Moumouni University , Niamey, and Hausa language at the Institut für Afrikanistik , University of Leipzig, Germany (1995-2000). In 2003-2004 I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Grammar, Cognition and Typology , University of Antwerp, Belgium. I became “Maître de Conférences” in 2005 and full professor in 2009, both through CAMES  reviews.

Various administrative and other academic functions:

* Current Chair of the Department of Linguistics (2010- )

* Deputy Chair of the Department of Linguistics, 1994-1995 and 2005-2007

* Coordinator of the Center for Language Research and Development, 2003 to present

* Acting chair of the Department of Linguistics, 2007-2008

* Coordinator of the committee for the introduction of the Licence-Master-Doctorat (LMD) system for the Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines, from 2006 to 2009

* Visiting professor at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, from 2010-2011

Distinction:

Chevalier of the Order of the Academic Palms of the Republic of Niger, 2013.
