Nanny's Reception

This is the reception results from my mother-in-laws apartment. This apartment is on the third floor (top floor) of one of those century homes at the bottom of the Hamilton escarpment. Her apartment faces towards the escarpment face, meaning Toronto stations are on the other side of the building. The Hamilton stations are virtually being blocked by the escarpment, as well as any Buffalo stations. This is one of the worst locations for OTA...or so I thought.

With a simple dipole antenna sitting on a window sill, I was able to capture 10 OTA stations. Now granted, a few are in and out occasionally but most were watchable. All but two of the stations are from Toronto. The other two are CHCH in Hamilton, and a lock, but no picture or audio on Global from Paris, Ontario. Since the first test, I've mounted the dipole higher in the window. This brought the majority of the Toronto stations in a little bit stronger, and even capture an additional Toronto station. The full list is shown below in screen captures on a Panasonic LED TV. The system only consists of the TV, about 10' of coax cable, and a simple DIY dipole ripped from a DIY Ch9 cut YAGI antenna. This dipole is made out of 1/2" copper piping.

Needless to say, she is extremely happy, as this is her only media connection, and it is in HD to boot.
