LAST NIGHT’S

ART SHOW

We traveled to foreign soil last night to cover The Uruguayan Embassy’s “Sala de las Artes” (Hall of Arts). Artists Agó Páez and Martín Rodríguez displayed their works to a crowd of family, friends, and fans down at 19th and I.

Microsoft’s Nicole Devolites and BD&A’s Clark Campbell take a look at Agó Páez’s mandalas (Hindu-inspired circular paintings). They make an effort to attend cultural events like the Sala de las Artes for the diverse crowd and unique art.

Painter and sculptor Martín Rodríguez in front of his wooden busts. He follows the Torres Garcia School of painting, which has its roots in Montevideo, Uruguay. He has been painting since the age of 16. Martín didn’t pick up sculpture until 15 years ago at a ceramics course in America. Although he didn’t use the word “abstract” in describing his work, Martín explained that he likes to paint and sculpt an object’s form in unexpected and unpredictable ways.

The Department of Agriculture’s Fanli Chou and Jennifer Lemley. Like many of the event’s guests, they heard of the show through word of mouth.

IDI Group’s Enrico Cecchi and his wife Andrea. Enrico’s mother is Uruguayan, so he felt right at home amongst Martín and Agó’s work. After he attends a leadership retreat, he and Andrea will be taking their kids to see the monuments. It will be a rather culture-filled week for the Cecchi family.

Arnold and Porter’s Giselle Fuentes and roommate Adrienne Lawrence. Giselle, who completed undergrad at Medill School of Journalism, recently graduated from Howard Law. Adrienne is currently at AU.

Diego Oviedo and Luciana Cavestany study in Virginia. Luciana is the proud niece of Martín Rodríguez.
