Motivation & Inspiration 4 'Mr. Peace':

“Hey Kevin aka 'Mr. Peace',

I really enjoyed your YouTube channel and I know that your message needs to be heard. If everyone was like you this world would be a much different place, that is for sure. Anyway, awesome job and keep up the great work.” - Adam Enfroy, Friend, South Lyon, MI

“All these ideas you have listed sound great and have interested me. Social change and justice are topics that really interest me. If you need anything let me know and I will do my best to help. I believe the University needs more people to come out and challenge the status quo in a positive and constructive way. Hopefully we all can achieve some type of change and now is the time to start.” - Adam Gonzalez, Student, U of M – Ann Arbor

“Very impressive Mr. Peace! I really appreciate your message. It's great 2 connect with thought leaders and generational influencers like yourself. Please let me know whenever you need help. Your new friend from across the lake.” – Al Garcia, Pastor & Life Coach, New Life Chicago, Chicago, MI

“Kevin,

You are absolutely amazing! You radiate Jesus in all that you do and I am so blessed to have shared small group with you this retreat. You are so inspiring because you truly recognize the goodness in all things and you have devoted your life to living out God’s word. I’m so grateful for all of the small group conversations we’ve shared – you have such insight to the world around you. Thank you for being the change, thank you for being real, thank you for your respect, your kindness, and your willingness to share your life with us. You make me feel so included and valued and I know that you are always doing that for all those who surround you. Keep keeping it real. You Rock!

Love,

“First of all: You're the coolest person ever.

The songs are awesome, for serious.

And I just watched your video of the 'Being Who I Want 2 Be' Demo of you speaking at Plymouth middle school and I'm impressed. You've really come into your own. There is no uncertainty or shyness in you at all. You are so confident and secure and you make me believe you. You're so good with the kids too. How you get in the middle of them, how you actually walk amongst them (your whole 6'4" self!) is really good. Not many do that, get that involved with them, become a part of them, they often just stand up there and give them some speech, but you, you have fun. It's darling and adorable. It's great. You're really good at this, which I'm not surprised at, I knew it, but you're so on your way. This made me really, really believe in you. I though I believed in you totally but I didn't know I could believe in you this much. Honestly, it's great, and I'm so proud to know you and say you're my friend (bragging rights, yes!).

I love the Challenge Day stuff you sneak in there. Also, when you speak to the kids telling them how worthy and great they are, I believe you, if I were them, I'd feel so loved and special. And how you kneel down and talk to them! So adorable, made me go "awww" :-P What you have to say is so valuable and how you present it isn't in 'I'm a motivational speaker and I know what I'm talking about' but that you're just like them, the best quality about your speaking is that I think everyone can feel like they relate because they aren't so different from you (in age particularly) and you're silly so that makes them more comfortable :-P

Thus, I'm more of a fan of you than before. Ha, kay, that's all I wanted to say about that (ode to Forrest Gump).

Love,

A” - Amanda Deschamps, Friend

“Kevin,

Thank you for coming to our class. Appreciate you sharing with us your personal experiences that you have gone through in your life. I hope your career grows into what you hope it will be. When you came to this class I didn’t think I was going to get as much out of this experience as I thought. It was a real treat having you here. I hope you have a good life and thank you for putting a new perspective on some situations. Thanks!

“Kevin’s drive and passion for bringing his message to life is inspirational. I believe in what he does. He has an incredible spirit. I look forward to seeing him continue to succeed in the future. Kevin, I loved the video. Keep on doing it, getting out there. You are going to be something big some day. I've seen Kevin grow in Michigan Toastmasters over the past few years as a motivational speaker. He has a great attitude, his energy is contagious, and he is an inspiration in his drive to help others. Thanks.” – Andrew Berriz, Student/Toastmaster, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor

“Kevin, yeah words on paper are easier to put and it takes a lot of guts to say your feelings and communicate them with me. I am sorry about how I have been treating/viewing you recently. I think the highest of you out of any of my friends, and sometimes when I think about it, just knowing you is a privilege. I don't intentionally criticize you or your friends/actions; it's just more of a joking attitude. I do realize that you have UNLIMITED love and potential for your life. If I do come off cross sometimes, it might stem from the fact that sometimes I’m not as motivated as you and don't have all of the things going for me as you do. Sometimes life can hit and hit on me (serious lack of $, taking bs classes now being behind in school, having to stop coaching, no girl (has been a while), and just other things added up). While these things are no excuse for discrediting you at all, they might lend a little light on how I can get frustrated sometimes and how I can turn irritation onto others.

I think all of the things you’re doing is great and I really don't dislike any of your friends, so don't worry about that. Probably 90% of the stuff I say is a joke, and nothing more- the joke might not sound like a joke to you, but it is to me. I know some things come off as not a joke and I shouldn't say certain things, but they do come out and I can't reverse them.

I know I got a lot of maturing and growing up to do and I’m sorry that you have to get some brunt of some of that immaturity. Just finishing up this message and thinking about it, I am REALLY frustrated about not having another in my life. I know it takes time and comes to those who wait, but damnit I’ve waited long enough and I get frustrated with life in general which affects the rest of my life including my schoolwork, friends. I know you’re big on relationships, so am I, but I’m big on the very key relationships in my life such as my immediate family and close friends.

But I don't want to rattle off excuses and everything, but I felt obligated to let you know about them and make sure you had an answer.

Again sorry about making you feel discredited at times. This is pretty alright what you’re doing and everything. Most/all people wouldn’t want to do something that they aren’t going to get any physical gifts from ($, girls, etc.), but this just shows your character and how your more than a regular old person on this earth- You’re special! And if any one person can change the world, it is you. You are the most powerful, endless worker that I know. Anything you set out to do, you not only get the job done, but you excel at whatever you do…Way to find your way in life and being who you want to be. Personally, I could not have asked for a better BEST friend. You always have a way for being there and hearing me when I need you most. You inspire me and if I could be half as caring as you, I’d be great then. You’re the BEST around, nothing’s even gonna keep you down! Your BEST friend, Andy.” – Andy Saks, Student, Eastern Michigan University (BEST Friend 4 Life)

“Kevin,

Today at Challenge Day, you came into my mind. When we all got together in our groups, I talked about you. I told the rest of my group that you were ‘the angel on my shoulder.’ I know it is from Rocky V, but it is true. You are my conscience and someone who I CAN/WILL always turn to for ANYTHING! I just want say thanks for being in my life and being you, who you want to be!!!! I LOVE YOU! #4” - Andy Saks, Student, Eastern Michigan University (BEST Friend 4 Life)

“Hello Kevin!

Isn't great to be on a brand new day? I'm glad you were able to watch the video, I have yet to see them all. I will be attending Bible Study tonight and you are going to be on our prayer request list, Alena too. You two are very special people and it is obvious that God has chosen you to do His Kingdom work here. Although I have never heard you speak to a crowd I'm sure you're very inspiring as you often are just being your self. I know for me when I hang out with you that I can plainly see God has truly blessed you with these unique talents and it is very inspiring to see you use them for His purposes. I have yet to get plugged in myself. So far I'm in the basics as far as my Spiritual work on this earth, I know there is so much more I could be doing but haven't reached that place yet, it takes strict discipline. The desire burns in me but... I have to work on it. Anyway thanks for the address and the email, I like that we can chat like this it makes me so happy :-)

“Dear Kevin,

You are an amazing leader. I’m so glad I was in your small group this weekend. I learned a lot from you. People listen to you and you have influenced our small group more than you can imagine. You know what you believe in and are not afraid to pursue your dreams. Kevin, you have the power to change the world. I wish you luck in all that you do. Never give up and remember that God is always there for you.

Thank you for coming in yesterday and talking with our class. You had a lot of interesting advice for us. Thank you for marrying me and having children then divorcing me…kidding! But you are awesome J” – Ariel, Student, South Lyon High School, South Lyon, MI

“Hi Kevin,

Looked at your web site, and was very impressed. I have been following your progress through school, and always knew you were going to do well. Keep doing what you believe in, and everything will continue to fall in place. We will look forward to see your progress with your career as well as your motivational activities. I (Art) have always leaned in that direction. As a youngster, those were the kind of books that I would read. I also enjoy books of the careers of people like Edison, Bell etc., people who made a difference in the world. Even today, I am not impressed with the Hollywood hero, as they do something to keep our mind off the problems of the world, few really contribute what some of the everyday people do by doing an honest days work, and giving back something when they have little. Anyway, we appreciate you letting us know of your progress in the many areas of your life. Thanks.

Your friends,

“Kevin is someone who approaches every topic and pursuit with great passion and a regard for varying perspectives. He expresses a genuine interest in the character, hopes, and dreams of every individual. He has a distinct and unique vision of how the world should be, though what sets him apart from others is that he takes action in the most positive ways, and will no doubt inspire many along his path.” – Ben Kaufman, Student, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor

“Dear Kevin,

Thank you for coming to my class and speaking to my class about decisions in life. You also came to my class the next day for Mr. Divitto. The things that you talked about really hit me deep and made me rethink what and how my life should be or how I want it to be. I liked the things you put into your speech and the way you were speaking to us. I hope you achieve your goals and I know you will succeed. For every dark night there’s a brighter day (2Pac)” – Bob Herzog, Student, South Lyon High School, South Lyon, MI

Just wanted to see how you were doing bud. Haven't talked to you in awhile and wanted to know how school, your publicspeaking and life in general is treating ya? Just thought you should know you've had a great impact on my life. Have a good day and look forward to

“I know that you are going to be successful at whatever you do. You have the right mentality and mind set. I am very impressed with your web-page. I was very moved, it really opened my eyes in the aspect of bettering myself and those in my life.” – Brandon Vantiem, Graduate, Central Michigan University

“Your messages have helped me, especially in the last few months of my life. I didn't spend a lot of time being who I wanted me to be, but I spent a lot of time trying to be like others instead of embracing who I am. It has built my confidence to just accept who I am and this will truly help me with my leadership, especially in the Air Force. I met a Colonel the other day who warned me to not try to mirror other's leadership styles because it won't work. It made me think, just like your message. Looking back, I realized that I took the wrong approach in ROTC (feeling like everyone was better than me) instead of just realizing that I was a good leader with my own style (like others had tried telling me but I didn't see it that way). In turn, this helped strengthen my relationship with Dave (you know I was having a rough time with ROTC/Dave) because I just let that stuff go and admired his abilities while still not recognizing my own strengths.

You have such great visions and can impact so many people with your message. Keep up the good work, Kev.

With much love,

Bean” – Breanne Baker, Graduate, U of M – Ann Arbor

"Hi Kevin,

I just read your information in the attachment & I'm blown away!!! You are an incredible organizer for peace.

Congratulations on a fantastic Peace Day!! The energy was awesome!!! Even though I was exhausted from the Bachelorette Party the night before, I wouldn't have missed it! I was so happy to meet your mom & tell her how much I love her son!!! The energy, creativity, and talent you have is being used to make this world a peaceful one. Thank you so much!" - Colleen Mills, 16th District Team Leader for a U.S. Department of Peace

I enjoyed meeting you and your mom. I certainly encourage you to continue to seek deeper understanding and experience of God's love for you - and how to use your many gifts to touch the world's longing for peace. “Thanks for telling us information about knowing what you want to do before you finish college and to not go into any career without knowing that you’re doing what you want to do.” – Dale, Student, South Lyon High School, South Lyon, MI

“Thanks Kevin, and great job with the smudging and calling in the directions. You have a presence, a wisdom about you that goes way beyond your years. I've enjoyed meeting young men like you and Joe. It's changed my media-influenced pessimism about direction of the world. Now I'm much more optimistic knowing that the world is in good hands with men like you in it.

-Brother Bear” - Daniel Drahnak, "Brother Bear", New Warrior Brother

“I have kept in close communication with Kevin since he graduated from high school and I must say he is one of our “Most Outstanding Ambassadors” in regards to the 3 objectives our program teaches and stands for: PLAYING HARD, PLAYING SMART, and PLAYING TOGETHER.

I have found Kevin to be one of the most diligent and dedicated people I have known. He has an invincible work ethic and moreover he is an intrinsically motivated person who will complete any task given to him.

When looking for leaders who are PASSIONATE about their calling and message, you won’t find anyone more on fire and alive than Kevin. You are an angel of LIGHT and you have my full support. Kevin has the gift of igniting “purpose” and “calling” in others through motivational stories and unique paradigm insights realigning conscious awareness back in sync with the true riches of life….ONENESS & RELATIONSHIPS. Kevin’s own life and testimony is a living example of how to manifest one’s true identity…..Children of the Most High…..into living reality by serving others.

His academic success and drive speaks for itself, but what’s most important to me is how Kevin has applied academic knowledge so creatively in the real world by starting his own motivational speaking company (Being Who I Want to Be), hosting two TV shows (Blossoming Genius & Keeping it Real with Steph and Kev) and participating in a very long list of wonderful organizations he volunteers for, all of which positively impact the lives of others.

- Daren Clayton, Varsity Basketball Coach, Friend, Visionary, South Lyon High School

Kevin,“

Your speech was right in line with everything I teach and emphasized, and what makes it better is you are an alumni from our program and still somewhat close to our HS kids in age.

As you mentioned in your speech, they may not have gotten everything you shared, but you planted some wonderful seeds that will hopefully germinate in the future.

Just want to thank you for living out your passion and your desire to give back and make this world a better place. I love your zest and zeal for life. You are going to be a world changer.

KEEP THE BIG PICTURE BURNING BRIGHTLY!

“You're the man......I think you should run for the Presidency :)” - Daren Clayton, Varsity Basketball Coach, Friend, Visionary, South Lyon High School

“I’ve been spending a lot of time reconnecting myself with the church to help me develop the serenity I know I will need as I try to lead my kids to the type of productive life that you are leading. I know your parents have been proud of you for all of your life, as I will of my kids, but to see the dreams you have for your children unfold before your eyes must be one of the most gratifying moments of their lives. I know you told me last year about some struggles they were having. I hope you know that your impact on society is giving them more and more strength every day. I know this now even before I have met my children.” – Dave Caravallah, JV Coach/Teacher/Brother/Friend, South Lyon High School

“Kevin,

Great job so far on your website! Your opening is cool!

I am proud of you, bro! You are making your dream come true!

The thing I have found in trying to make a living (financially) doing what you and I LOVE to do, is that "Financially" it can be REALLY TOUGH! (And I've sold over a million books!) For a lot of the people I see using residual income sources, they are like you and me (ministry minded) and are in this to free up their time, so they have more time to do the ministries and outreaches they have a passion for, without being so concerned about 'how am I going to make a living, too?' I am also very AMAZED at how many college students are doing it!

I'll be glad to give you my lead of my literary against, once your book is completed!

Keep the peace and stay focused! I love you and your good heart and desire to help others! Keep it up, Bro!

“Kevin,

You are truly a man of your word!! Lol!! You were not playing when you sent all those wonderful messages from all the people from Next Step. “Kevin continues to demonstrate his passion in doing the best he can to help others through his involvement both within and outside the church. He has made all who know him proud of his accomplishments…including his parents! Haven’t quite figured out how his day really starts from sunset to sunrise…while…I’ve yet to see him slow down. Continued success in all you do.

"Kevin,

I am so proud of you. Continue doing the great work you are doing. I believe in you. Thanks for coming on the retreat. I am so impressed with the prayer you gave and just the person you are. Continue to share the Jesus in you with others. We need strong men like you who love the Lord and others to be witness to that!!! Thanks for touching my life I feel I am better because of it.

I just looked at the check you gave me last night and almost fell over. I can’t tell you how touched I am for your generosity!!! Sr. Louise will be thrilled to know that some university student was this generous.

God will certainly bless you for your generosity!!! Thanks so much for helping this family of 100 children have a home.

Hope your year is filled with lots of goodness and many blessings. God Bless you – you made my day today!

Continue to celebrate the gift you are! Peace my friend. You are such an inspiration to so many. I pray you will continue to do so in your ministry.

Dorothy" - Sister Dorothy Ederer, St. Mary's Parish, Ann Arbor, MI

“You have done very well, Kevin, and we are extremely proud of you! May God continue to draw you closer to Himself, teach you and use you for His purposes. Let the Holy Spirit guide you according to the mind of Christ. Only by staying in God’s will can we find true happiness and success. Though your abilities and accomplishments are substantial, only God is limitless in His wisdom and power. Isn’t it awesome that he desires to share some of it with us?! And that He lets us help Him in His work?! We encourage you to pursue God as completely as possible. He loves you very much and trusts you to do your part to further His kingdom. The really kool thing is how the Lord is working in your life as far as giving talks to our youth and adults of today. I pray that Jesus through the Holy Spirit will continue to guide you and give you a peace that you are doing what He wants you to do. It is really hard to follow the way God wants us to go and even if we go down the wrong path, we will learn and He will get us back the right way if we seek Him and ask Him. It has been great fun renewing our friendship lately! You are a very nice person and we welcome you into our home anytime. You are one Kool dude…Keep up the good work. I am proud of you and so is your Dad; he always (sometimes) talks about you. Again, congratulations and may God continue to bless you!” – Elroy & Kathy Grandy, Two lifelong friends

“Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your thoughtful letter. Yes, I do believe that jigsaw could be useful in fostering community connections that would enhance and encourage diversity.

As important as your project is, I am afraid that I am unable to get directly involved. As you might imagine, I receive a great many

such requests every year. Moreover, jigsaw is only one of my research interests; accordingly, I am forever running the risk of spreading myself too thin; so, with regret, I need to decline your invitation.

My advice is to explore your local resources. My guess is that, somewhere at the University of Michigan--in the psychology

department, or ISR, or the school of education, there are people who could be useful to you in suggesting ways that the jigsaw technique could be utilized to help you achieve your goals.

“To Kevin,

Thank you so much for coming into class and talking to us. You were funny and I really understood what you were trying to say. I’m sorry about my handwriting. I kept the piece of the dollar to remind me of my goals, and to remind me of life and what I want for myself in it. Well thank you again. J

“Kev, many people graduate from U of M, but not many develop the courage to follow their dreams. Thanks for sharing your inspiring story with my students. They loved it. And we love you! I love you, Kevin. You have touched all of our hearts. I look forward to seeing you on the auditorium stage. Stay you. I'll check in with you later.

Love,

Haz” – Jane Haslett, English Teacher, South Lyon High School

“I am glad to see your dream of a Peace Day at U of M has finally come true. I would love to attend this function as I know this means a lot to you, but as you know I’m not exactly close to AA anymore. The concept and messages that will be presented definitely are applicable and could do a ton for the university's culture and community.

I wish you the best of luck in the production and recruiting of people to participate. All your hard work will pay off, as it always does. I know your speech will be awesome, I have listened to your two radio shows and you are very enthusiastic and I am sure you will communicate that to the audience.” - Jason Barley, Graduate, U of M – Ann Arbor

“I have known Kevin for 7 years. He approaches people, cultures and lifestyles different than his own with open mindedness. His ability to interact with children all the way up to elderly adults is engaging. Keeping in mind the importance of commitment, reliability, stability and good judgment, I give Kevin my highest recommendation.” –Jason Zylka, Friend

“Hey Kevin it is Pozitive Parrot (Jay Tupholme) I checked out your web page, and I am quite impressed, with your awesome efforts in life. It is very inspiring to see someone of your age so involved. We only ever see and hear about how bad our youth (18-24 year olds) are being. I am sure there are others like yourself, and I am sure they exist because of people like you. I for the most part am overwhelmed by the fact that more than half of the new HIV infections are in 18-24 year olds (6000 youth a day become infected). I work very hard to get my story out there, and often run into many obstacles. People like yourself and the many incredible men that I have meet doing this work , continue to fuel my fire to keep on fighting. I have attached a copy of my speech. Feel free to use it anytime you think that it may be helpful. Keep up the amazing work Kevin, all the best to you, keep in touch. Cheers, J” – Jay Tupholme, New Warrior Brother

“Kev,

Thanks for the email dog. I just read the article and watched the demo. Congrats!

It looked great. You had some great audience interaction during your talk. The kids seemed engaged for the footage I saw.

It was awesome and I enjoyed watching it. I want you to know that it fires me up to see you living your dream and doing what makes you come alive.

I laughed when I read that your three role models are Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Tupac Shakur. It is quite a combination. I think judging by the frequency with which you quote each it should be in the reverse order. I am saying this now but I want to be in the crowd when you are speaking in front of 50k at a peace rally. I am so sure it will happen I am already saving.

Also, I just want you to know that you are a sick rapper. That was awesome. I really can´t wait to get back and meet up with you so we can just chill and talk about it, dog. Look at this, I leave the country for 3 months and when I come back you are a published rapper changing the world. Got to love it!

One speech that particularly stands out in my mind is the 16 page speech I read that you were preparing for a middle school type audience. Keep doing the thing. You continue to impress me from afar with the work you have going on campus. Your emails are incredibly well written, direct and passionate, just like your speeches. Keep me posted on how things are going.

Congratulations!

Much love dog,

Jeff

P.S. With a busy schedule like this, do you find time to sleep?” Jeff Crippen, Graduate, U of M – Ann Arbor, Currently Student at LIFE College in Atlanta, GA

“Hey Kevin,

It's good to hear from you bro, I've been really busy too. Sorry I haven't responded to some of your emails. I checked out your site and am extremely impressed. It's absolutely amazing what God has been doing to change your life, Kevin! Always remember that only through Jesus can we understand the revelation of Absolute Truth and know our own identity. As much as you can (I know you can't do this publicly in public schools) make sure that you instill this into the people you influence. They cannot truly find out who they are and they cannot be real with themselves or with others without Jesus, it is impossible. How can the characters of a story understand their purpose without the knowledge of why the Author of the story created them the way they are?

As far as songs go for the retreats you are doing, you've asked the right person, my friend. One that comes to my mind right off the bat is "Meant to Live" by Switchfoot. I'm sure you've heard it on the radio, but it talks all about our purpose in life, that many people don't live up to what they were made for and we are meant to live for so much more. Another one by Switchfoot that actually just came out a few weeks ago on December 26th is called "American Dream". They talk about not getting sucked into the mindset of self-absorption, excess, money, cars, etc that is so prevalent in the "American Dream" that many people have. They then go on to say that they want to live for something bigger than themselves. Really good stuff. Another one is called "Typical" by Mute Math. You should check out these guys for yourself, they are an incredible band (the lead singer plays a keytar - a piano in the shape of a guitar). Anyway, this song talks about breaking the spell of the typical (falling short of your destiny) and striving to reach the other side of where you are aiming for. He asks, "How long should it take somebody before they can be someone?" and says, "I'm feeling like it's now or never...can I break the spell of the typical?" These are a few good ones, they are all rock so if you want something rap or whatever, I can look more.

Love,

John Boy” - John Grandy, Graduate, Spring Arbor University

“Kevin!

“K-Swiss,

It was great hearing from you the other day too bro. I haven't talked or seen you in quite some time but it sounds like you are doing great. I admire what you are doing, not only the whole completion of school at U of M but also with the changes you are trying to bring to the campus and to the community. Pretty soon Kevin once you get the ball rolling, I'm sure you’ll be affecting a wide range of people. That is just amazing what you are going to be doing. You are the sh**, if you don't mind me saying so. You are going to do great for yourself and for those you are going to be reaching out to in the future. I'm impressed none the less.” Kirk Arvo, Friend

“Dear Kevin,

You definitely know how to keep an audience interested. You were funny, moving and captivating. Kurt definitely enjoyed being a part of your speech and rap. For being 22, and having the ability to talk about your experiences to high school students is amazing and brave. You are a great speaker and extremely entertaining. You have accomplished so much since graduating from high school; graduating from U of M, talking to over 6,000 students, traveling from school to school, it is inspiring. You had a goal, fought toward it, and achieved it. We could only hope that we are as lucky as you to work our dream job. Thank you so much for coming to our class and sharing your experiences and wisdom with us.

Thank you again,

“Kevin Szawala,

We really appreciate you coming to our class and explaining the importance of having an open mind. We liked how you related your high school life to ours. It felt as if you were speaking to us individually. Your rap was impressive and a perfect ending to your speech. We liked how you used different methods to show us how things aren’t always what we think; such as the chair exercise and how we fold our hands. Also, how you tried to have us pay it forward, was a very smart idea to try and have us try and change our community which will eventually have us change our society. We thank you for coming to our class and we hope to see you again one day.

Sincerely,

Kitchen 6 – Hour 2” – Kitchen #6 – Hour 2, Students, South Lyon H.S. South Lyon, MI

“Dear Kevin,

You really made me think about what I was doing for myself, and what I was doing to fulfill others dreams in me. I wasn’t going to become a Japanese translator because I’m too cowardly to go to Japan alone. But now I think I am going to follow my dream of being a Japanese translator. Although I’m still nervous about it. I enjoyed your speech very much, especially the rap (you’re really good).

Sincerely,

Krista Hass

P.S. I promise I won’t beat you with a baseball bat or steal your money/clothes…lol J” – Krista Hass, Student, South Lyon High School, South Lyon, MI

“Kevin,

Thank you for coming in and talking to us about our dreams and being yourself. My dreams that I have include being a poet about love and feelings. Well I write all the time on how I feel and what happens and it makes me feel happy that someone that doesn’t even know me, but you believe in me…pursuing my dreams.” – Kristi Sallah, Student, South Lyon H.S. South Lyon, MI

“Kevin, it sounds like you have done very well, and I am very happy to see that. Year's ago, even before you graduated, I used to do a lot of self-esteem speakers. Most of my principal colleagues did the same. However, I have learned in my position that good self-esteem does not come from speakers, but, rather, from success. I have not had a self-esteem or motivational speaker in nearly 10 years. If you would like to speak, however, with regard to Economics, or Global Issues, I can notify our Social Studies Department and put you in touch with members from that area. Either way, you have done great, and I have no doubt that even bigger and better successes await you. Thanks for writing.” – Larry Jackson, Principal, South Lyon High School

I was totally inspired meeting you today. You are a blessing and a reminder to me the impact one person can have. Thanks for daring to be you,

“Hey Kevin,

I’m in the library right now so I'll have to listen later on today, but wanted to reply now while I have some time before class, as I have been putting ‘replying’ off for a lot of people these days ... getting a bit behind. Sounds like it's going to be a pretty cool addition to the U of M airwaves tho’, mostly by the initiative of yourself I would imagine. Thanks for keepin' me updated. Hearing about all that you're doing helps me to get more on the ball here too.

“Dear Kevin,

Just wanted to jot down a quick note of thanks for spending your precious time with me and my classes on Thursday! They loved you and learned much. God Bless all you do in this great big world. I'm just pleased that there are people in this world that choose to encourage others to do the right thing and go for the gold, so to speak. I've been thinking and decided that when God decided to give you gifts, He did it in a big way. Keep the faith, stay with your plan and follow your heart - what a fabulous life lesson to understand at 22.

Take care of you. Be true to you!

“Dear Kevin,

It was really fun having you here and I have no idea what I want to be because there’s so many choices today. But I do have a few choices like I always liked learning about the changes in social studies and how much change they can make, and I really like air force too because I want to fly and my favorite is F-14 and there is the marines too, but it’s really tough I don’t really think I could make it in that, I might but it’s worth a try to me. Thanks for coming and nice rap, you don’t even look like a rap person but I like all music.

Sincerely,

Thank you so much for all the positive work you have been doing to help in keeping UM the wonderful place it is. I am pleased that you have been talking to Royster and Ann. They will be pleased to listen to your ideas. I encourage you to share the information with the Diversity Blueprints task force, which I hope will be in place next week and certainly will begin its work next semester. They will be accepting ideas and making recommendations to me and the executive officers by March 15, 2007. While I do not have time to listen to the many individual proposals, the task force plans to establish work groups and really delve in to all the issues. We need energy from everyone on campus.... just the sort of work you have been doing. Many thanks.” – President Mary Sue Coleman, U of M - Ann Arbor

These activities include his continuing membership and mentor activities with the Michigan Toastmasters, including his efforts to help establish a Department of Peace. In addition to helping coach his brother David’s basketball team, Kevin hosts an online TV show entitled 'Blossoming Genius,' where he interviews passionate people making a difference in their communities. He is also authoring two books entitled 'Being Who I Want to Be' and the other, 'A Path to Peace.' Good job and congratulations Kevin. You are on your way to making good things happen. “Kevin, I’m really proud that you’ve taken an active role in church ministry. You’ve probably found that you get more from your experience when you are in a leadership role. Using your gifts to draw closer to the Lord is wonderful! Keeping God in the forefront of your life will help your light to continue shining brightly. As our loving Polish Pope said, ‘…to find yourself you need to lose yourself in Christ.’ I want you to know that many of your qualities that make you a terrific son, brother, grandson, nephew, student and friend also make you living proof of being a true follower of Christ. You, like St. Francis, work at being a peace maker. I admire this trait because it’s not always the ‘easy’ thing to do. You are a very generous person, using your time and talent to help others. From changing diapers to donating food, etc. to those less fortunate show that you are a ‘giver.’ I especially applaud your honesty even in somewhat controversial situations (we’ll forget about driving hours J). You are not ashamed to display your commitment to your religion (i.e., wearing scapulars), and I am so pleased that you make mass a priority and encourage me (us) to go to confession. Guess I could go on and on…, but I wanted to tell you how proud I am of you and grateful that God showered His graces on your Dad and I years ago. We are truly grateful for having been blessed with you for a son and for the time God has shared you with us. Your birthday fell on a very holy day. It's representative of the Holy Trinity, being that it is the third day of the third month of the third millennium. We are celebrating your life today, and ironically, dying to ourselves with the Lenten season that begins 2 days from now. Let's pray that our country's (and others) leaders, communities families and each of us, are strengthened to know and do God's will. You have a wonderful way of opening your heart and your life to everyone around you, and your caring means more than you know. May God continue to bless and inspire you today and always.

I think the Holy Spirit has blessed you with a special gift +

I love you, Kevin,

With much love,

“Kevin,

Thank you so much for coming and speaking to our class. You made us motivated to be better people. You made us think about who we are and want to be, instead of what we want to do. Follow your heart. We loved all the stories and your rap. It kept us interested. The things you said really made us think instead of just listen. We would be thrilled if maybe you could come back again that would be great. You were a great speaker and you should definitely keep it up. Follow your dreams…WE WILL FOLLOW OURS! Thank you for coming to speak with our class. You were very inspirational. Your message got through to all of us. Also, you weren’t too shabby at rapping. Your part about family and friends was encouraging to live each day with them. I really hope I run into that deer when I do something like this. You really inspired me to be nicer to people especially to people that I don’t know. I really liked your rap. It was really cool. You did a good job at getting through to most of the kids. You were very interesting.

“Kevin,

I went to your web site and did some browsing around. I watched a few videos and read through some text. First I must say how amazing it is to see how much your mission has grown and extended to so many others. Thinking back to a snap shot closer to the beginning is just awesome and unfathomable into which it has become today. I'm proud to call you a friend, a motivator, and that spark to so many fires including mine. You're right though that it is nice to see what other peoples goals are and their feedback on how they intend to achieve them.

I've always wanted to tell you that I always hold you dear to a time in my life when I was down and out and I really can't tell you how much help you were in that time in my life. You were the spark I needed. Thanks for not giving up!

“Kevin Szawala is an extraordinarily committed and accomplished Transformational Activist. He has a heart on fire to facilitate young people to live lives of passion and purpose. The passion of his vision, that he will speak to audiences of 50,000 young people at a time, moves me to tears. Knowing there are 22-year-olds with this level of vision and determination in action on earth today, renews my belief that we can transform this beautiful planet of ours!

While in undergraduate school he co-hosted an on-campus TV interview show called “Keepin’ it Real.” These shows were passionate and compelling. Kevin is at present creating a new Internal TV servies of an inspirational and motivational nature. He is sourcing this project himself. Kevin is a brilliant and imaginative person committed to contribution. Kevin has a passion for motivating youth, and a personal goal to speak to groups numbering tens of thousands of people. He speaks at high schools and colleges, distributes demo tapes to solicit speaking engagements. This is largely colleges, distributing demo tapes to solicit speaking engagements. This is largely at his own expense, and totally his own initiative. He is highly action-oriented. He has held two annual Peace Day events at UofM Ann Arbor, totally on his own initiative. He has active plans to continue and expand these events. He is also engaging in political work at the precinct level. Kevin is currently in process of getting a book published. This is a book on changing the world, that he began writing at age 18. I have held monthly Salons of Thought: Leaders and Activists, for the past several years. Kevin is by far the most outstanding, dedicated person I have ever had the privilege to engage in these conversations for global transformation and I fully believe that this young man has the potential to impact the course of humanism in a deep and profound way. Given his proactivity and absolute passion for committed action, I have no doubt that he will fulfill all of his dreams, which include founding companies and organizations dedications to youth.

Kevin, I want you to know that your energy is a beautiful thing. You are such an incredible human being that my heart is bursting. You make my heart sing! I’m writing in my ‘synchronicity’ journal, and am realizing just how amazing is your stand for the world. At this moment I am in the impact of your commitment, of who you are as a person. When I saw your document that you began 4 years ago, at age 19, entitled “Changing the World”, I was so moved. It is beautiful to have you in my life. I can’t express enough how moved I am by you. I am honored to have had you brought into my life, and for the opportunity to have you help me launch the Institute for Transformational Activism. I am absolutely clear that this Institute is a vital part of the transformational journey humanity is on. And I am on the hunt for my Tribe, the team with whom I will get this into manifestation. Bless you. It was my great pleasure and privilege to share in the Peace Day event with you. It gives me wonderful comfort to know that a young person such as yourself is out there, holding such a glowing flame for the earth and for humanity. I love your spirit and soul, and am grateful to have you for my friend.” - Patrice Kaufman, VP, American Medical Careers

“Dear Kevin,

I thought the stuff you had to say, it was pretty cool. It helped me out a lot. There is a situation that I’ve been dealing with. An ex-girlfriend who I have remained good friends with for about a month. After hearing what you have to say, I talked to her and told her she still means a lot to me and I value her friendship. So I guess all I can say is thanks a lot.

Sincerely,

Patrick Martin (Musician)” – Patrick Martin, Student, South Lyon H.S. South Lyon, MI

“Kev,

I saw you at Peace Day. All these peeps, the music artists, Domino's, Ben & Jerry's, but most important the musical artists that came for free for you. Because of you, you...you have an energy I don't and can't explain. Al you would have to say is I need help and if I could I would be there with bells on. I need that, that camaraderie, that charisma. I guess in a nutshell I aspire to be more like you.

I have been thinking about this for awhile but haven't had enough motivation to do it. I think it is more that I think I can't succeed and that I'm really not to do anything. I was thinking of running for a political office. I want to change the world like you. I would really need your help to even have a chance to win. You just have that charisma and a way with people that I don't. I'm thinking City Council, Novi. I'm not even sure where to begin, I thought you, and your many connections could help me.

I think this could be a positive step forward for me. I believe with you in my arsenal I could do it all and then some. I know you have a lot going on. I propose an exchange of services. Your mission is to save the world a person at a time, a peace rally a day. Help me be something more like you. You know, help where and when you can.

Peace In,

Pat

“Dear Kevin Szawala,

We both found your speech inspirational. It was great how you expressed your ideas in a fun and exciting way. And it was good to hear that you're interested in our outlooks of life. Thank you for giving this speech and making a difference in our lives.

“I really like the part that says, ‘impossible is not a fact, it’s an opinion’, and the part that says ‘...to explore the power they have to change it’ tooootally reminded me of you.

“Hey Kevdogggggg!!! (hehe)

I cannot get over how amazing you are. I breezed over that email and intend on reading it to a full extent when I have a good amount of time on my hands. I feel really blessed to be your friend, you are an amazing person with a huge heart and you always make my day when I talk to you! When I saw you at my dad's viewing, I pretty much cried because you were there, that was truly awesome of you and that really meant a lot to me, thanks again for that. I'm sad that we didn't keep in touch for the past few years but I don't intend on falling out of touch with you again! I definitely love talking to you and hearing your perspective on everything. If you ever just need to talk to someone you know you can call me and I'll talk up a storm with you!! You're amazing and I hope you have a good week, talk to you soon!!

Neener!!!!

“Kevin,

I got a note from Alan and it sounds like you are doing well. Every time I think about you, I have joy. To know that God is still working in the hearts of people calling them unto His work, and that people like you are answering that call with a yes. Remember He who has called us to a work will provide the way and the means to accomplish His will. In Bible study on Sunday a.m. we have been discussing the life of Joseph and how that there could be no way he could have foreseen where God had for him to be, while he was in the pit, in the house of Potiphar, in prison. Yet there was something that caused him to continue on the path before him. His faith and dependency on God is what allowed him to keep on keeping on. When the circumstances of life begin to say no, this can’t work, something is missing, what a waste, this does not add up, remember He said “your ways are not my ways and your thoughts are not my thoughts”. God’s plan will take you on many paths and directions which by the worlds standards will seem not so right, but His way is always the best. Brother hold fast to that which you know to be true, and keep your eyes fixed on Christ our Lord and He will show you great and wonderful things which you cannot imagine.

Rod” – Rod Bryant, Friend, Brother in Christ, Boaz, AL

“I kept my dollar piece in my pocket all day. Then, when I got home I taped it to my computer monitor so I would always look at it and remember what you said. Thank you for talking to us.” – Ryan Bates (I had green hair), Student, South Lyon High School, South Lyon, MI

Kevin,

Hope you're recovering from the fun shenanigans of PeaceDay! I stopped by but you were busy introducing and talking to artists. It was a busy day for me but I was very glad to see some people out and celebrating diversity. It is really awesome that you hold that event. And remember, “with your website where you say you may not change the world but you hope to inspire someone else to change it. By that reasoning alone you are changing the world, even just by trying...so you can change the world yourself, rather than just inspiring people. By induction that is changing the world...

Ryan” - Ryan Morton, PhD Student, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

“Kevin,

Just a quick note to say thanks so much for the flowers. It made my day. You have a gift from God so go forth and do it. You have touched many people’s lives and will continue to do so. Take care of yourself first and then go on.

“I encourage my Warrior Brothers in The Mankind Project to check out the website of New Warrior Brother Kevin Szawala (Unconditional Loving Falcon). His message is one of inspiration and altruism. I believe it is important to support my Warrior Brothers with their mission work when I am in total agreement with their message. Unconditional love of fellow human beings, void of filtered and bias judgment, can be achieved; And it is my fervent prayer that more people in this world begin to set aside their differences, (which in many cases, are vast), and come together in peace, compassion, and love. Imagine. I got a sense from early on that you are a special man, that you have the makings of someone who WILL make a MAJOR difference in the lives of many on this earth. In some ways, you've become a muse for me. You make me desire to up my game, and become a better man. And that's the highest compliment I think I can give any friend.” – Shawn Brennan, Fellow New Warrior Brother

“Kev, you are a SUPERSTAR SPEAKER!!!! I love your talks about life and our individual lives. When presenting on Being who YOU want to be, you not only tell, but you SHOW the audience HOW you are YOU, and HOW you have become YOU. Without even speaking, your gestures and apparel and overall appearance while speaking are individual and unique to you - you don't show up in suits or stand really stiff or use firm expressions; rather, you dress how you are comfortable, stand relaxed, and freely move around the stage and move your hands while talking naturally.

Your speeches are AMAZINGLY POWERFUL. I have noticed that you seem to introduce new concepts, if you will, but saying a sentence about it, touching on its importance, using a visual or creating an imaginary visual ( i.e. snowball, you being like Gandhi except Mr. Peace, water turning to grossness (I forget which story that was...), and really shock the audience. Then you expand even more passionately on the concept. Using a strong visual like you do really makes the concept stick with the audience. And your concepts are easy to grasp, whether you are 10 or 100.

I would absolutely recommend you to speak anywhere at anytime! Not just because I am your friend, but because I have seen the impact you have had not only on myself but also on our friends. You have turned the most mundane and overused quotes and turned them into profound statements that actually have meaning rather than just redundancy in my mind. Also, “Peace In” has caught on like a wild fire in my nitch of friends. People actually think about it while they are saying it.

Kevin's positive energy can be felt a mile away. He is extremely upbeat, inspiring, and energetic. He gives himself 100% to all of his projects, and whether we were working on our motivational talk show or preparing speeches for a weekend retreat, Kevin was present and focused and always looking for better ways to get through to people and empower them to be who they want to be. Kevin truly listens to what you have to say and is always looking for an opportunity to reach out and help someone, friend or stranger.

I would recommend you seriously to anyone anywhere at anytime, Kev. You know I firmly believe in EVERYTHING you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am proud of you! You inspire and motivate me! I want to talk to you more often!!! I totally believe in you and the motto and everything!!!!!!!!

Love, Steph:)” – Stephanie Mansour, Communication Graduate, U of M – Ann Arbor

Thank you very much for your detailed and thoughtful ideas. You have obviously spent a great deal of time thinking about the issue of diversity, and I appreciate the creativity you have shown. “Kevin,

Thanks so much for being so real with me and opening up to our group. You are such an honest, passionate person that at first I was honestly a little frightened by how real you made things seem. Your mellow, understated honesty has inspired me to try to lower my walls and see others for who they really are. Please don’t ever change how you see the world because I know that you relay, truly will make a difference, not just in the lives of everyone you meet, but in your town, your country, and in the world!! J I will be praying for you and your mission, and please know that you will always have a friend in me! Thank you for making my first retreat an amazing experience! Much love and God bless you!

“Dear Kevin,

Thank you for coming in and giving us students some inspiration. I think as a student that you were born to be a motivational speaker. You brought a gift to us and message that makes us realize what we have, and go for your goal. You kept us interested with your humor. Showing us what you meant by example, and rapping. “Dear Kevin Szawala,

Thank you for coming into ‘Curdy’s’ class and lifting our spirits. We think that what you do is one of the most important things someone can do because there are not many people that show their care about high schoolers. Not many people go out of their way to get kids on track. Your deer story was awesome and you are an awesome speaker. THANK YOU!

“Ohh Kevin; how is your heart so open? I surely hope to be so open-minded and open-hearted like that too someday... imagining what the homeless are going through never occurred to me. I think God is working through you to me. No; God is working through you, most outstandingly. To me, and to all the people who you have met. It's amazing to be a witness of that...I thank you. Deeply. Thank you, Kevin.

You're one of the very few people who have touched my life. It doesn't take much, but nothing doesn't make it. The effort you've given, the courage you show, and a lot more, but especially your devotion. It is outstanding. I must have not even known how much words can do before I started talking to you.

Every word said to one can change their life forever. But let me add, you can't set a dream and expect to jump up to that high dream of yours without any support.

You. What you have done is acknowledged my dream that lies so far up, then brought me cushions and stools and bricks to stack up so I can have a ladder to stand on when I reach for that single star. Please keep fighting! And thank you Kevin, for touching my life! And let us keep the hope, love, and faith all alive!

Love,

Yuki” – Yuki Roy, Student, South Lyon H.S., South Lyon, MI

My Email To Jeff Crippen that started it all :)

What up my crippa?

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I guess I'm still a little depressed from Miami getting lucky and the fact that Ben Wallace sold us out for an extra $10 mill. But other than that, I'm doing fabulous. The internship I have right now is interesting at least, pays well and good location. But as I've been talking with you and others, the fulfillment hasn't been there and I don't think it will be in terms of feeling like I'm making the impact I'm capable of making.

In terms of Challenge Day, I've got a lot of options opening up for me right now. After that workshop, I was approached by several teachers/counselors, etc. about possibly talking at one of their schools in Ohio because this one lady is always trying to promote young kids. One guy told me he does youth work around the country and told me he's going to get in touch with me. Another guy told me about this group called Speakers Unlimited and they do speeches all over the world. One lady wants to refer me to her literary agent and see what happens as I told her about my big Word document I have going with motivational/inspirational tidbits from books I've read, conversations I've had, movies I've watched, etc. In addition, the 2 co-founders of Challenge Day gave me the offer of becoming a Challenge Day leader to go speak to middle schools and high schools around the world. So right now I have a lot of options that I can pursue and I'm starting to do that. But I want to take part in an actual Challenge Day at a high school in August before I commit to anything. Also, I'm not going to quit my day job or close any doors for some of these companies because the reality of things is that I still need $$$ and have to be sure about the speaking and funds that go with it before I totally go for it. But yeah man, things are clicking right now. It's a very exciting time in my life. Let me know how Mexico is going and I look forward to chatting with you coming up bro. Ten cuidado.

Tu perro/gato/chico/amigo/hermano,

Kevin

Jeff’s Response:

Kev,

Just get used to it. this is how things are going to be. Miami is the bomb and you drafted darco. . . lol sorry to bring it up but those, as they say, are the facts my friends. Where is the internship at, bcbs of Michigan or did you end up somewhere else.

Dude that is exciting the number of options that you have. I was excited for you just reading it and it is not even my life. That sounds awesome dude. Keep up with that and let me know how it goes because it sounds like there is a ton of opportunities out there for you dog.

This sounds almost like your dream, you have always talked about becoming a motivational speaker and also sounds like you have an interest in leading challenge day and now those are just two of the possible option in front of you dog. Once again congrats.

As far as life down here in MEx, I am just chill and trying not to jump into any more pools. Getting to the part of the program where it is time to buckle down and get a little work done so I am doing that. Then I am done in two and a half weeks which is really nuts to think about it. After here I am going to visit Rachel in Jamaica for a few days and then back to the states to see my family for the first time in a while so that should be a lot of fun. Kind of excited to go home, not only to see my family but talk to one of my good friends named Kev.

Hollar at your boy dog,

Jeff
