Torah on One Foot
Sorry, this page is still just a draft... The Hebrew page is better organized at present and has more material.
I have been blessed with the honor and the pleasure to teach classes on "Basic Judaism" in a great variety of forums. These are the places I have taught (in reverse chronological order):
The Gandel program for adult Jewish education in Israel, Melton Centre for Jewish Education, Hebrew University (5767-present). Classes in Karmiel & Misgav region.
"Introduction to Rabbinic Literature" courses in the Overseas School of the University of Haifa (5765-present). I do this is as a strong primary-text-based course, using translations of Midrash, Mishnah, Bavli & Yerushalmi.
The "Nativ" course for immigrant soldiers, education corps of the IDF, sponsored by the Jewish Agency's Institute of Jewish Studies (5764-present).
"Introduction to Bible" courses at the Humanities Department of the Technion and Michlelet Sha'anan (both in Haifa).
The Be-Zavta program at the University of Haifa (5762-3)
Livnot Ulehibanot in Safed (5759-5760)
Besides these, I have participated in a variety of local forums and community projects in my home town of Karmiel, Israel.
Materials and Outlines for Teaching Basic Judaism
Hebrew Materials
I hope to make more and better materials available for download and use in the future.
The Wold of Jewish Practice - עולם המעשה של היהדות. This is a Hebrew language sourcebook on practical Jewish living that I designed for my teaching in the Nativ Course of the IDF. It includes (1) bein adam la-haveiro, (2) general introduction to halakhah, (3) synagogue & prayer, (4) Shabbat, (5) Kashrut and blessings, (7) Jewish identity and other miscellaneous topics. Available as PDF or ODT (LibreOffice). There is also a Teacher's guide being prepared. Does not include lifecycle and holidays (see #3 below).
My Nativ sourcebook on Jewish thought, entitled על דעת המקום, is still very incomplete and unfinished. This is another highly incomplete version of the same.
I also have a hasty collection of a few basic sources on lifecycle and holidays.
English Materials
I hope to make further materials available for download and use in the future.
