Life in Karmiel
Karmiel Activities
Trying to live and build "Open Torah" was very hard for quite a number of years (as some of the essays on this page describe). Nevertheless, together with my partner Rabbi Eli Talberg, and some newer partners in recent years (since about 2009), many meaningful things have been accomplished.
The most important thing is what's actually going on right now! The "Nitzotz-Machanaim" community is flourishing, thank God (הזורעים בדמעה ברינה יקצורו)! And a description of the new community (קהילת אוהל אברהם) which meets at the Amit high school (2009-present) remains to be written by all of the many wonderful community volunteers.
A Letter to the Editor of "Conversations" (2009) which tells a story that sums up several years of my community experience in Karmiel (appeared in Conversations 5).
"From Germany to Israel" (2003) is about my early efforts trying to convince Religious Zionism to pay some attention and invest in the latent potential for Russian-speaking community work and community leaders.
All of the above activities were begun quietly and privately, touching hundreds of people over the years on a personal level, all despite an almost complete lack of resources and support. We hope to do much more in the future with God's help.
