Monotypes
Statement
Striving to achieve the purest and most intimate, raw mark of expression. My monotypes evolve from daily walks, observations of woodlands and their linear rhythm throughout the landscape. The process of printmaking brings about meditative thoughts while manipulating ink and burnishing marks to paper, an appreciation for those walks and the aesthetics that nature offers.
The images are printed on sumi kozo paper and mounted on a linen board.

"SIGNS OF LIFE"
Monoprints 15" x 32"
These scrolls were developed during Covid lockdown. Like everyone around the world, our lives came to a screeching halt and were challenged with isolation. I was lucky, I live in the hills of Vermont, and every day I had the opportunity to walk or ski, just outside my door. Each piece evolved from the emotional journey of watching, waiting, and accepting what's to come. Desperately missing my children and grandchildren, I was grateful for the technology of face to face contact of video calls. Those calls brought us closer together knowing that looking out the window, my grand-daughters were viewing the same night-time sky as me. Hence, the inclusion of the moon in each piece. The moon not only brought us closer together, it has become a symbol of emotional comfort and aesthetic balance in my work.
