     He married, 1865, Marian Mackenzie, b. 1824, d. 1913;  daughter of Alexander Mackenzie of Edinburgh.

7.  Robert Langley Holmes (son of Martha Molloy), b. 1833.  Planter in Fiji. He began as the Meteorological Registrar for Canterbury, New Zealand. When Julius von Haast started Canterbury Museum in 1862 he was taken on as clerk of the Geological Survey and keeper of collections. When money became short in 1868 Haast specifically stated his departure was  "much regretted by me". He continued his work on meteorology in Fiji writing the first accounts of Fiji’s climate and an important early work on cyclones. He was made a Fellow of the Meteorological Society (of London) for his publications and research. [Paul Scofield].

     He married Margaret Jane Sharp,  daughter of ? Sharp of Sydney.

       He married Katherine Olive Spence, b. 1918; daughter of W. F. Spence of Bedford. She divorced him in 1921, then remarried him in 1930.
