Machine-Type Communications

Machine-Type communications (MTC) enable many devices to access and communicate with an access point (AP) in an Internet-of-Things (IOT) network. Unlike human-type communications (HTC), MTC requires low delay and low control overhead to support a huge number of devices with low activity. MTC has many potential applications for

  • 5G wireless communications

  • Internet-of-Things (IoT)

  • Smart grid

  • Mobile healthcare network (MHN)

  • etc.

Our research Interests include

  • Compressive sensing based random access scheme for MTC

  • Pilot design for joint detection and channel estimation

  • Security issues in MTC

  • Applications to smart grid and MHN
