Congrove, Sharon

Sharon Congrove, watercolor artist

As a little girl, Sharon Congrove watched her grandmother create beautiful paintings in oils and pastels.  Her grandmother, Katherine Bauer, an accomplished artist living in Glendale, California, shared her love for art with Sharon by taking her to art shows and teaching her how to draw and paint.  The early lessons created a desire in Sharon to become an artist, and inspired her style of painting.

Sharon notes artists Georgia O’Keeffe, Monet, Norman Rockwell, and John Singer Sargent inspire her.  Each of them represent very different styles of painting, but have a quality that captures a slice of life, or evokes a feeling that is shared with the viewer.  Sharon aspires in her own way to share what she has witnessed, and capture it in a timeless and meaningful way that expresses the beauty of life that surrounds us.

Sharon’s paintings are realistic in manner and reflect her love of color and nature.  She frequently travels, photographing subject matter for her paintings.  She loves the feeling of creating ideas and watching them come to life in a painting.

Over her life as a wife, mother, and career oriented professional, Sharon took drawing and oil painting classes in her leisure time.  In 2000, Sharon retired from Lockheed Martin and moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona.  Upon retiring, Sharon turned her attention to what she loved – Art.  She enrolled in watercolor classes at Mohave Community College with instructor Barbara Bradley, and has attended professional watercolor workshops with Betty Carr.  Locally, her painting won Best of Show in the Havasu Regional Medical Center's art contest, where her painting will be permanently displayed at the hospital entrance lobby.  She is also a member of the Havasu Art Guild.  Her work has appeared at the Art Guild’s annual juried Art at the Lake fine art show, receiving First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and Award of Merit in watercolor over the years.
