Jones Island & Beach

The swimming beach on Jones Island is monitored my the Lake County Health Department for E. coli bacteria. Beach status may be foundhere

Many years ago, the perimeter of a marshy area adjacent to the west end of the lake was dredged out. The dredging soils were used as fill to create Jones Island. Geography wise, the island is probably more accurately a peninsula. Either way, the island, owned by the Grayslake Park District is a great place to visit. Grills, picnic tables, a picnic shelter, sand volley ball, a playground, a beach, and a large field are all available for use. Fishermen frequently use the island and folks launch canoes or drag their ice fishing equipment from this point. In the winter the Park District maintains portions of the channel for ice skating and hockey.
