She is interested in Biology Education, Health Education and Environmental Education, being highly involved in international cooperation with more than thirty universities from Europe, Brazil, Northern Africa, and The Middle East.
In 2017 she was awarded the honorary degree of “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the University of Lyon 1, France, and in 2019 the "Women in Science" by the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
She has supervised 29 doctoral theses and is currently supervising 7 theses. She has 601 publications, including 165 full papers in scientific journals, 103 chapters in books and 202 full papers in proceeding books of scientific meetings. She has 84 documents in Scopus, with 1450 citations and Index-h 22 (24/01/2024).
She is a referee of submitted manuscripts to more than 30 international journals, is editor of three special issues of two journals and is a member of panels of evaluation of Academic Promotion (Brazil, Cyprus, France, Greece, and Portugal), Research Centres (France), and Research Projects (European "Horizon", Brazil, Germany, Israel, Romania, and Spain).
