March 12th Meeting

Post date: Feb 11, 2016 1:14:22 AM

The GO4ST8 Physics meeting on march 12th will be a QuAST event. We will addressQuestions and Answers that folks have submitted throughout the year, along with a big Show and Tell event. Bring any activity, lab, worksheet or method you use and find interesting, helpful, or that seems to have potential.

If you have Questions, Answers, or items to Show and Tell:

The last GO4ST8 Physics meeting of 2015/2016 is coming. Saturday, March 12th, we will meet from 9 – noon, at Minnetonka High School: come early (8:30 AM) to share refreshments and treats and get acquainted.

The meeting will be a QuAST session: QuAST stands for Questions, Answers, Show and Tell. The intent of this session is to give the participants information that they want and are willing to share. Over the course of the past meetings this year, everyone has had a chance to fill in the survey to help us define the scope of the session. It’s not too late to give your input. Just go to http://goo.gl/forms/1onnGCpk82 and you can complete the survey if you have not already completed it.

At this time, the Questions portion has the following topics that need some answers: Flipped and Modeling Approach, Standards Based Grading, Rotational Motion and Magnetism. If you would either like to know more about these area or if you have Answers that you would like to share bring them in and add to the discussion.

In the Answers department, participants are ready to discuss the finer points of Kinematics, Forces and Waves. If you have questions within these topics, ask them around the room and I’m sure you will get some help.

The final part of the morning will be the Show and Tell portion. Participants are willing to bring in things to share about Kinematics, Forces, Rotational Motion, Magnetism and Technology Integration. If you have anything that you would like to share, bring it and add to participant knowledge.

There will also be an update for Physics Days at Target Field in April and Physics and Science Days at Valleyfair in May.

As you can see, the key to this QuAST session at GO4ST8 is you. Swing by on March 12 at 8:30 AM in Minnetonka High School and be a part of it. Everyone can ask questions, give answers and show and tell something.

Valleyfair Physics Milk Carton Boat Races

On your mark, get set, and GO at Valleyfair’s third annual milk carton boat races. Students are challenged to design, construct and race a boat made of milk cartons that must float in Breakers Bay Wave Pool. The categories and rules have changed from last year to increase opportunities for students. More information can be found at www.valleyfair.com (Physics and Science Days under Student and Youth Groups) or by contacting Steve Ethen <sethen@umn.edu or 952-607-6074>. This is a great STEM project for students. The time to start planning for the May 16 – 18, 2016 races is now! More information will be presented at the March 12th GO4ST8 Physics meeting.
