General Club Rules of Decorum

Each and every member of the Pear Park Pilots is expected to adhere to accepted norms of societal behavior concerning safety, honesty, courtesy, cooperation, inclusiveness, and friendliness such that their actions will tend to enable, promote, and assist all other members in engaging in and enjoying the hobby of model aviation, rather than inhibiting, discouraging, or preventing other members from engaging in and enjoying the hobby of model aviation.

Pear Park Pilots Flight Safety Rules

Preamble: In order to insure a safe flying experience, Pear Park Pilots establishes the following safety rules for all members, guests, visitors and spectators present during flight operations at the Eagles Club Field. As club members we are insured by the AMA for liability to others. As such we must insure that we abide by the AMA safety rules and regulations. To do otherwise could put a member at risk of civil liability if an accident occurred as a result of a safety rule violation. These rules will help us maintain our privileges at the Eagles Club field. It is the intent of the club to encourage knowledge of and voluntary compliance with these rules and to reserve punitive actions only for rare cases in which counseling and warnings are ineffective.

1. The Safety Officer is in charge while at the field. The Safety Officer, or in their absence a club officer, is authorized to investigate alleged rule violations and to dispense appropriate counseling or verbal warnings as needed. Any member who repeatedly ignores the safety rules is subject to disciplinary action by the Board of Officers.

2. Spectators must stay off the designated flying areas, runway and taxiway at all times. (See Figures #1 and #2)

3. No one should touch or contact an aircraft in flight and under power except to stop it from striking another person.

4. No animals are permitted in the designated flying area, taxiway, or runway. (See Figures #1 and #2) It is strongly suggested that all pets be on a leash while at the flying field. Please pick up after your pet.

5. No alcohol or drugs are permitted at the flying field. Violation of this rule is grounds for immediate expulsion.

6. Unsportsmanlike and/or uncivil conduct will not be permitted. Violators will be asked to leave the flying field. Continued conduct will be taken to the Board of Officers for disciplinary action.

7. No littering. If you brought it to the field, take it with you.

8. Flying field hours: Dawn to dusk.

9. Fixed wing aircraft shall only be taxied or hand launched in the taxiway area. (See Figure #2). No aircraft shall be flown east of the designated flying area (see Figure #1). Aircraft shall not be flown over persons, structures. Aircraft should land in a direction parallel to the taxiway.

10. Only electrically powered or unpowered aircraft may be flown at the flying field. There will be no more than 4 aircraft aloft at any time. Up to two gliders at altitude above 150 feet will not count as part of this limit.

11. Pilots must stand or sit east of the taxiway.

12. When launching or taking off, the pilot will announce “taking off”. When landing the pilot will announce “landing” at least 30 seconds prior to intended touchdown.

13. When entering the runway/designated flying zone to retrieve and aircraft, announce loudly “on the field” and upon return announce “off the field”.

14. If operating a new aircraft or one that has had extensive repairs, the pilot will announce “maiden flight”, prior to announcing taking off.

15. High speed passes must be conducted west of the barrel and parallel to the taxiway.

16. If a pilot is experiencing problems controlling his aircraft, he should announce “trouble” and his intentions. If his aircraft is out of his control he should announce “look out” and the direction his aircraft is from his position.

17. Gliders and dead stick aircraft have right of way over other aircraft. Aircraft in final approach for landing have right of way over aircraft taking off.

18. Helicopters and multirotor aircraft should be operated south of the parking area unless there are no aircraft operating in the designated flying zone or by agreement of the other members present. These aircraft shall take off and land no closer than 20 feet from a person or vehicle.

19. The flight pattern will be counter clockwise unless wind conditions dictate a change is necessary and all pilots are advised. Similarly landing patterns may be adjusted to accommodate wind direction but all pilots will be advised.

20. FPV flights will be conducted consistent with AMA rules. Each FPV pilot will have a spotter.

21. Any aircraft collision with a person or personal property causing damage should be reported to the Safety Officer or a club officer as soon as possible.

22. All club members are responsible for adherence to the safety rules. If an infraction is observed that presents imminent danger to persons or property at the flying field, speak up politely and offer guidance. If it appears that someone has difficulty adhering to the safety rules, contact the Safety Officer or any club officer so that the issue can be corrected. (See Club Bylaws - Safety Rules and Infraction Correction)
