Academic background I got my B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Parasitology from Universidad Autónoma Chapingo in 1986. In 1990 I received a M.Sc. degree in Entomology at Colegio de Postgraduados and later on a Ph.D. degree in Entomology at Virginia Tech in 1999. I was a recipient of a Fullbright-Garcia Robles scholarship for my doctoral studies. My research interest is in Agricultural Entomology and the sustainable use and production of ornamental insects. Teaching Experience I have been working at Colegio de Postgraduados, a graduate school, since 1987. I am engaged in research, teaching and extension activities. I was a part-time professor at Universidad Autonoma Chapingo. I also participated as an invited professor in the “Maestría Tecnológica sobre Medidas Sanitarias y Fitosanitarias”, in Central America. Since 1993 I have been lecturing in different graduate courses. Currently, I taught three courses on simulation modeling, introductory statistics and systems theory. I also have been instructor in short courses and workshops and I have participated as Project Reviewer for CONACYT, UC-MEXUS, SIGOLFO. Scientific and Tecnological Productivity I have presented about 35 works in national and international scientific meetings. I have published about 50 scientific papers, some books as author or co-author and book chapters. I have generated the copyright of six computer programs registered at the Library of Congress USA. I have directed or participated in different scientific grants funded by CONACYT and other sponsor agencies. I am a member of the “Sistema Nacional de Investigadores Nivel I” (2005-2015; 2016-2019). My research interest is in integrated pest management, design and development of management information systems, simulation of biological systems and sustainable management of ornamental insects. Extension and Outreach Activities I participated as a technical adviser for the mexican government during the negotiations to expand the export of Mexican Avocado to the United States in 2002. I was a coordinator in the assessment of the programs “Hule y Palma de Aceite de Alianza para el Campo” in southern Veracruz in 2002. Since 2005 I have developed an interactive outreach program “Mundo de los Insectos” aimed to children of primary schools in Veracruz. Human Resources formation I have graduated five students at College level, both in agriculture and computer science. I have served in the committees of about 28 M.Sc. students and about 10 Ph.D. students as main advisor or committee member. From these activities we have published several scientific papers.
