Wizard Dance at Cons

The Dancing Death Eaters are now bringing wizard dance to HP conventions, with the first being MISTI-Con 2013.

Irvin, (usually as Lucius Malfoy), teaches an hour-long or 90-minute-long workshop titled "The Art of Wizard Dance," where he teaches attendees a modified version of signature DDE routines. The dancers then usually perform the routine at the closing ball of the convention.

Almost all of these have been recorded for posterity at the Videos page.

At MISTI-Con 2013, he taught approximately fifteen people a routine to "Dark Mark Calling."

At MISTI-Con 2015, he changed it up by dressing as Bill Weasley, and teaching a routine to "Oh, the Goblins and the Wizards Should Be Friends." Unfortunately, there was no time to perform at the ball, but the dancers got together to film a rendition anyway.

At Leviosa 2016, Irvin taught almost thirty people the routine that started it all: "Death Eater Tango." And at the ball, there was a stage and everything for their performance!

At MISTI-Con 2017, Irvin taught a class of eight people "The Art of Parseltongue" (which was more heavily edited than most to remove all the epic lifts in the original). Notably, for the first time the wizard rocker in question (Hawthorn & Holly) was present, and so sang live while everyone danced around her.

In summer of 2019, there was a Wizard Dance double feature - which, on top of Dancing Death Eater stuff, resulted in a lot of dastardly dancing!

First, at Leviosa 2019, Irvin taught a dozen people a routine to "Like a Death Eater." Their performance actually served to kick off the closing Ball of the con!

At MISTI-Con 2019, the Dancing Death Eaters were performing themselves. So to avoid redundancy for the purposes of Wizard Dance, Irvin choreographed a brand new dance for the workshop - set to "Rodolphus" by Ashley Trix! The wizard rocker in question, Ashley, was incredibly excited and actually did the dance alongside all the other dancers. Irvin taught the brand new routine to about a dozen attendees, one of whom later went on to call it the highlight of the convention! In another departure from tradition, there were a lot of spectators watching the dance be crafted. The dancers all then performed it at the Founders Ball that evening!

At CONjuration 2021, Irvin brought back "The Art of Parseltongue" because Hawthorn & Holly was on hand to sing it live. He taught the routine to eight people, five of whom stuck around all the way through to perform it.
