XC & Road

Competition

Chepstow Harriers belongs to a group of running clubs in East Wales which all participate in and organise a series of road races in the summer, and cross country races during the winter - often referred to by members as the LCL cross country and Road LCL races.

In both disciplines there are 5 races. Members compete for their club and as individuals within their age category.

Leisure Centre League (LCL) Road &  XC

Visit the new GLCL website for up to date and information and results - GLCL Website

We compete against other local running clubs in this series of XC races over the winter, the league/series features the same Monmouthshire clubs that contest the LCL Road competition. The races usually start at 11.00am and all members are welcome to run. It has been known for us to get 50 or more members at these events.

Men and women run together over the same course.
For the 2024/25 season we will be using chip timing and you need to register your interest in the competition by filling out an on-line form. This is so we can allocate you a chip/race number.  If you are a new member joining after the 1st race don't worry we can get you a number - just contact one of the club captains and they'll let you know what you have to do.

The form is here: GLCL XC registration form

You can view all the registrations here: (dob/gender and URN hidden): Spreadsheet of responses

We usually meet at Chepstow Leisure Centre steps at around 9.45 to travel together.

This competition follows on and links to the road race series held over the summer. If you've taken part before, you know what it's all about - if not, then come along and give it a try. There's a good team spirit, entry is free to members.

As well as the team element to these races there is good competition to be had as an individual in your age category, which are in 5 year age groups

There is a dedicated LCL website - GLCL website

 Gwent League (GL) XC

The Gwent League (which is rarely in Gwent!) is a larger-scaled competition with clubs/ teams from across South Wales and the West. The quality at the front of the senior men's and women's races is of a very high standard. Don't let this put you off though, as the range of abilities is complete - with hundreds in each race you're very unlikely to finish last. The men generally have approximately 10km to cover, with the ladies normally about a 6km+ course.

Each event consists of a number of races for different age groups - we take part in the Men's and Ladies' senior races, which usually appear at the end of the programme, and with the Junior section we will have runners in the earlier junior races.

We generally meet at the Leisure Centre to share cars, as the events are held over a wide range of locations - and it's always nice to try to engender team spirit. With the men and women running in separate races, there's good opportunity to cheer on your team mates from the sidelines! We take the club tent with us, to act as shelter and to provide changing.

Just like the LCL XC, the Gwent League XC is free to club members

Check out the official Gwent XC League website for details of results, locations, routes and times.
