This car was ordered with the 1LE suspension package (installed by SLP) and started life as an SS. It was owned by a former employee of GMMG. It was originally a Phase I 380hp/400tq car. It was later converted by GMMG to a Phase II (435hp/410tq with 1 3/4" headers, custom cam, and LS6 heads) with 3:73 rear end gears, BF Goodrich KD Tires, Hurst Line Lock, 6-point roll cage with removable rear bar, Corvette brake conversion, white houndstooth interior, carbon fiber drive shaft, sub-frame connectors, SPEC light weight flywheel, and custom charcoal stripe decals.

Partial Conversion

2001 - Onyx Black - coupe with t-tops - manual - Phase II

This car was modified by GMMG through Tom Henry Chevrolet. It was originally delivered as a brand new Camaro SS to Kelly Chevrolet (a dealership) in the Pittsburgh area as a Camaro SS with several SLP options—SS front grill, chrome 10-spokes, Dual-Dual exhaust, floor mats, car cover. The original owner decided to take the car to Tom Henry Chevrolet when it had 2650 miles in June 2005.  While there, it received the Phase II engine package, Eibach lowering kit, Chambered Exhaust (utilizing the SLP Dual-Dual tips instead of GMMG tips), 3.73 rear gears, and a GMMG air lid (that strangely has an SLP decal on it--the owner tells me he has the Tom Henry sticker, and I think he should apply it). This car also (unusually) has red decals advertising the horsepower, which I don't believe I've seen red horsepower decals on a GMMG car before (but I haven't researched this very thoroughly). It has the Tom Henry windshield decal, Tom Henry dash plate, and Tom Henry's signature on the engine bay. It is missing many of the 23 standard "Tom Henry SS" modifications so it's kind of hard to classify. I speculate that the original owner of the car didn't want GMMG to replace the items that he had already paid extra for SLP to install on the car. However, it's possible that GMMG was legally unable to provide some of the features that would make this car look like it could be #33; specifically the wheels and grill. It does not have the GMMG door tag and while it has Tom Henry Racing on the gauges, the design is different from the other 32 cars for some reason.

Clone

2001 - Light Pewter - coupe with t-tops - automatic - -

While very well done, this car is indeed a clone. The owner of the car loved Tom Henry SSes and wanted to make his Z28 into one. It is very, very close to being an exact clone. The owner did a great job locating rare/impossibly hard to find parts. Because of it being so close to real, I have to mention its VIN # in case the next owner of this car is not as honest as the first owner who made the conversions. It is 2G1FP22GX12140576.

Related to Tom Henry...

The Camaro ES

Scott Settlemire's mom, Elaine Settlemire, used to own a red V6 Camaro with silver stripes, custom ES badges, Z28 exhaust, and a Tom Henry Racing decal across the windshield. Although the stripes are SLP RS stripes, I believe those are GM Accessories F-1 stripes (basically the same exact thing), and this car is not an SLP RS. I know she had this car back in '05 when she was 80 years old. In 2012 she was about 87 years old and driving a 5th gen 2010 Camaro with Tom Henry Racing windshield banner, THR emblems, and ES on the hockey stick stripe. The Settlemires had a family connection with the Tom Henry dealership. Elaine has passed away unfortunately, so these cars are no longer in her possession.

The Tom Henry RS

Another unusual Tom Henry car is the Tom Henry RS. The story about this car is extremely long and I can't possibly summarize it. There is (or used to be) a page titled "Building the Tom Henry RS" that documented every single thing that was done to the car, located here: http://www.camarohomepage.com/project/index.htm. That site went into more detail than I ever will. Their opening paragraph summed the car up perfectly: "The idea behind the Tom Henry RS project is simple: modify a fourth generation Camaro powered by the 3800 Series II V6 to the point that some of its performance characteristics will mimic those of the, new, fifth-gen V6 Camaro." I believe they started the build of this car in 2005 and it was featured in Camaro Performers magazine. They continued with the car and did more to it.

Essentially what they did is modify the heck out of a manual 3.8L arctic white Camaro they purchased in California. They spent a lot of effort on the suspension and increasing engine power in particular. They went on in GREAT detail about some of the most insane engine modifications I have ever read--things that seem silly to do to such an underpowered V6! If you have ever wanted to see what would happen if you just continuously threw money at a 3.8L V6, you're going to have to read the 5 part article!

Below you'll see pictures from various stages of the build. The first pic is the "before" picture. The 2nd pic is the "after" (this build is still in progress, however). 3rd is an in-progress and 4th is a finished road test of the suspension. The car ended up with (at the rear wheels) 229.7 hp at 5750 rpm and 225.7 tq at 4625 rpm in part 4 of the article. Apparently that converts to 270 to 280 hp at the flywheel. This was on 100 octane gas.
