Cayman Receives Galileoscopes

A recent meeting of the presidents of the Astronomical Association of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands Astronomical Society (CIAS) produced stellar results as reported by the Cayman Compass.

This first meeting of present and former presidents, namely AAJ president Jamaica Defense Force Lieutenant Colonel Martin Rickman, his counterpart, Chris Cooke of the Cayman Islands Astronomical Society and immediate AAJ past president Errol Rickman took place at the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club in Kingston, Jamaica on Sunday Nov. 22, 2015.

A raft of bilateral topics were discussed involving the outreach activities of both groups, encouraging closer ties through the sharing of information and ideas.

The highlight of the meeting was the donation of 12 Galileoscopes to the CIAS as an expansion of the AAJ AstroClub Project to the wider Cariibbean. As noted by Lt. Col Rickman; “I believe that somewhere in the Caribbean is a future great astronomer or future cosmologist. Our aim as societies is to provide opportunities to such individuals, to reach out and guide them and give them better opportunities regionally.”
