The AAJ hosts a multitude of yearly events around astronomical phenomena. The AAJ also hosts its members and interested patrons at an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Global Astronomy Month takes advantage of the momentum created by the success of IYA2009 with the aim of keeping astronomy in the spotlight for years to come. Global Astronomy Month is spearheaded by Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) and occurs in April.
The year 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy as declared by the International Astronomical Union in partnership with UNESCO.
World Space Week was declared in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly - it is celebrated October 4-10. It celebrates the launch of the first man made object (Sputnik) into space and promotes peaceful space endeavours. It has grown to become one of the largest public space events on the planet.
Yuri's Night is a global space party celebrated by thousands across the globe on April 12.
