Call for Submissions

Tohoku Studies in American Literature welcomes papers and essays in either Japanese or English. Only members of this chapter (See eligibility details below) may submit papers to this journal.

ELIGIBILITY DETAILS:

1. A member of the Tohoku Chapter who gains a membership at least three months prior to a submission and attends its regular study meetings.

2. A member who has contributed something to this journal before.

3. A member whose annual membership fee is in arrears is not eligible for a submission.

4. The editorial board may ask non-members to contribute.

MATERIALS:

Materials that can be submitted are academic papers, study notes, book reviews, translations, and other materials that are related to North American literature and culture.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

LENGTH:

If the contributed paper is written in Japanese, the length should be 11 pages or less (36 letters X 36 lines), including notes to the main body of work, quotations, bibliography. English submissions should be 7,000 words or less. Consult the editorial board about the length when a member submits study notes, book reviews, or other kinds of work.

STYLE:

A contributor is required to follow the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 8th Ed. Notes to the work should come at the end. If in Japanese, an approximately 500 word abstract in English should be attached. Contributors are encouraged to prepare the paper as a Microsoft Word file (notes, quotations, bibliography, and abstract should be added to the main body to make one file). If a contributor has limited access to computers, a hard copy can be sent to the editorial board, and if this is the case, send five copies of the same work.

COVER PAGE:

The cover page should bear the title of the work, the full name of the contributor, the name of the entity the contributor is working with or studying at, contact address with a phone number and an e-mail account (in both Japanese and English if the paper is written in Japanese).

Non-native English speakers submitting works in English should seek the advice of a native or native-level speaker prior to submission.
