COMPARING AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL GENOCIDE WITH OTHER GENOCIDES

Article 2 of the UN Genocide Convention:“In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: a) Killing members of the group; b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group” [1].

Comparing the ongoing Australian Aboriginal Genocide with the Palestinian Genocide and some other genocidal atrocities directly involving Australia (deaths from actual violence and from imposed deprivation are given in round brackets) [additional notes are given in square brackets]: as follows for the following alphabetically listed atrocities:

1788 onwards Australian Aboriginal Genocide and Aboriginal Ethnocide (2 million), [0.1 million violent deaths; 4,200 annual avoidable deaths out of a 0.7 million population i.e. 0.6% pa].

post-1950 Asian Holocaust due to Australia-complicit US Asian Wars (40 million).

Expert opinion about the ongoing Palestinian Genocide of Professor Francis Boyle (eminent legal expert on human rights, genocide, war crimes and International law, and Professor of International Law, University of Illinois College of Law): “The Palestinians have been the victims of genocide as defined by the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, under which a government can be guilty of genocide even if it intends to destroy a mere part of the group” [6, 7].

Conclusions. The ongoing, 232-year, post 1788 Australian Indigenous Genocide is similar in death toll to the ongoing post-1916 Palestinian Genocide (about 01 million violent deaths and 2 million avoidable deaths from imposed deprivation and disease in each case). Presently annual avoidable deaths from deprivation total 4,200 in each case but the avoidable deaths as a percentage of Indigenous population is 0.6% for Indigenous Australians or 7.5 times higher than that for Occupied Palestinians (0.08%). Conversely while about 15 Australian Aboriginals die in custody each year (30 year average), there is a 20-year average of 550 Occupied Palestinians violently killed each year by Apartheid Israeli forces.

As UK or US lackeys Australians have invaded 85 countries as compared to the British 193 countries, France 82, the US 70 (50 after WW2), Germany 39, Japan 30, Russia 25, Canada 25, Apartheid Israel 12 and China 2 [8-14]. About 30 of the Australian invasions have involved genocide as defined by the UN Genocide Convention [15]. The Australian Aboriginal Genocide involved mass slavery and forced child removal policies, and is qualitatively the worst in human history – of 250-750 Indigenous languages and dialects in 1788 only 120 survive today and of these all but 20 are endangered in an ongoing Australian Aboriginal Ethnocide [16, 17]. Conversely, 1,800 million Indians died avoidably from deprivation in the 1757-1947 British-imposed Indian Holocaust that included the 1942-1945 Australia-complicit WW2 Bengali Holocaust, and was the worst genocide in human history from a quantitative perspective [18-20].

ESTIMATING ANNUAL INDIGENOUS AVOIDABLE DEATHS FROM IMPOSED DEPRIVATION

Here is the 2015 perspective of ongoing Australian Aboriginal Genocide and Aboriginal Ethnocide: https://sites.google.com/site/aboriginalgenocide/2015-perspective - before the British Invasion in 1788, Indigenous Australians had been living in Australia for about 60,000 years. There were 350-750 different tribes and a similar number of languages and dialects, of which only 150 survive today and of these all but about 20 are endangered. After the brutish British Invasion, the Aboriginal population dropped from about 1 million in 1788 to about 0.1 million in the first century through introduced disease, deprivation and genocidal violence. The last massacres of Aborigines occurred in the 1920s but no Treaty has ever been signed. Indigenous Australians were only counted after a referendum in 1967 and were finally given some protection by the 1975 Racial Discrimination Act. In 1998 about 4,000 Aborigines out of an Aboriginal population of 500,000 died avoidably every year but the avoidable death rate has declined from 0.8% pa in 1998 to 0.6% pa in 2013, with still circa 4,000 annual avoidable deaths out of a population about 670,000. Australian Aborigines suffered Genocide at the hands of the European invaders in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Indigenous population dropped from about 1 million to 0.1 million in the first century after the invasion in 1788, mainly through violence, dispossession, deprivation and introduced disease. The last massacres of Aborigines occurred in the 1920s. Throughout much of the 20th century there was a policy of forcibly removing Aboriginal children from their mothers, a systematic genocidal policy involving the removal of perhaps 0.1 million children. This practice ended in the 1970s. However the continued deliberate deprivation of Aboriginal Australians amounts to a White Australian policy of passive genocide. [1]

The “annual death rate” (2001 data) is 2.2% (for Aboriginal Australians) and 2.4% (for Aboriginal Australians in the Northern Territory) – as compared to 2.5% (for pre-drought sheep in paddocks of Australian sheep farms) and 0.7% (for White Australians). This is happening in one of the richest countries of the world because of deliberate neglect – Australian Aboriginal health services are funded at 50% of what they should be; many Australian Aborigines live in Third World conditions; the “annual under-5 infant death rate” is over 3 times higher for Aborigines than that for White Australians; 1 in 5 Australian Aborigines have diabetes (mostly type 2 diabetes) which has huge attendant problems such as cardiovascular complications, kidney problems and blindness; and the Australian Aboriginal life expectancy is about 20 years less than that for White Australians. However the latest report on Aboriginal Health by Professor Neil Thomson and his colleagues (2012) indicates a very big improvement in Indigenous Australian avoidable mortality over the last decade, although male and female life expectancies for Indigenous Australians are 11.5 and 10 years lower, respectively, than for non-Indigenous Australians: “In 2006-2010, the age-standardised death rate for Indigenous people was 1.9 times the rate for non-Indigenous people” . By 2011 the Indigenous population had grown to about 670,000 and there were 2,558 Indigenous deaths registered in 2011. Estimates of identification as Aboriginal ranges from 56% to 92%, the former indicative of 4,568 deaths per year, a death rate of 0.7% per year and an avoidable death rate (on a Third World-based assessment) of only 0.3% per year or about 2,000 such avoidable deaths per year, a huge decrease on the estimate for 2001. By way of comparison, annual preventable deaths (a First World-based assessment) totaled about 1,400 per year in the period 2006-2010. MacRae et al. summarized this improved death rate thus (2012): “After adjustment for the underestimate of the number of deaths identified as Indigenous, the ABS estimated that Indigenous males born in 2005-2007 could expect to live to 67.2 years, 11.5 years less than the 78.7 years expected for non-Indigenous males… The expectation of life at birth of 72.9 years for Indigenous females in 2005-2007 was almost 10 years less than the expectation of 82.6 years for non-Indigenous females.” (see MacRae A, Thomson N, Anomie, Burns J, Catto M, Gray C, Levitan L, McLoughlin N, Potter C, Ride K, Stumpers S, Trzesinski A, Urquhart B (2013). 2015 estimation of 4,000 avoidable Indigenous deaths annually:

The avoidable death rate (avoidable deaths as a percentage of population per year) is the difference between the observed death rate and the death rate expected for a decently governed demographically comparable population (for details see Gideon Polya, “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”, that includes an avoidable mortality-related history of every country from Neolithic times and is now available for free perusal on the web : http://globalbodycount.blogspot.com.au/ ).

The mortality rate is 1.0% pa for Indigenous Australians and 0.6% for non-Indigenous Australians (Figure 1, Overall mortality rates by Indigenous status: NSW, QLD, WA, SA and the NT combined 1998‑2031, page 7, “Closing the Gap Prime Minister’s Report 2015”: http://www.dpmc.gov.au/sites/default/files/publications/Closing_the_Gap_2015_Report.pdf ).

For non-Indigenous Australia the observed death rate is 0.6% pa which is about what is expected for a low birth rate, high life expectancy society and hence the avoidable death rate is about 0.0% (crudely put, old people die and the older the population the higher the expected death rate).

However the Indigenous Australian population (population 670,000) has a very youthful demographic and a median age of 21.8 years (cf Bangladesh 25.8, India 26.9 and Pakistan 23.2 years ) as compared to non-Indigenous Australians 37.6 years (cf Austria 43.3, Belgium 41.9 and the UK 40.5 years, countries for which the avoidable death rate is about 0.0%) (see “Estimates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, June 2011”, ABS, 2011: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/3238.0.55.001 ; Median age, “World Population Prospects: the 2012 Revision”, UN: http://esa.un.org/wpp/unpp/panel_indicators.htm ).

The observed death rate in decently governed Developing Countries with a demographic similar to that of Indigenous Australia is about 0.4% per year (see Gideon Polya, “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”: http://globalbodycount.blogspot.com.au/ ) and thus the avoidable Indigenous death rate is 1.0% - 0.4% = 0.6% as compared to 0.4% pa for impoverished South Asia and 1.0% for impoverished sub-Saharan Africa but occurring in one of the world’s richest countries (per capita income $83,000 per head per year) i.e. 0.6% of 670,000 = 4,020 or about 4,000 Indigenous Australians die avoidably from deprivation every year.

Decent, anti-racist Australians will utterly reject this intentional homicide of Indigenous Australians by Lib-Lab state terrorists, vote 1 Green and put the Coalition last.

Monash University diabetologist Professor Paul Zimmet stated recently in relation to the world-wide diabetes epidemic "If we don't do something, there is a real chance that Australia's indigenous community will be wiped out by the end of the century. The world needs to act now if we're to deal with this problem, which threatens to consume world economies and bankrupt health systems. We are dealing with the biggest epidemic in world history." [12].

An analogy will help here to help one start to understand White Australian politically correct racism (PC racism) by which explicit racism is forbidden in public but one of the World’s richest countries can in effect ignore the horrendous annual avoidable death of its Indigenous citizens. In 1997 it cost Australia A$6 million to rescue lone, round-the–world, UK yachtsman Tony Bullimore from his upturned yacht in the Southern Ocean and similar amounts to rescue other solo yacht-persons who have deliberately and knowingly put themselves at enormous risk in Australian waters (e.g. Isabelle Autissier and Thierry du Bois, similarly rescued in dangerous operations involving the Royal Australian Air Force and the Australian Navy at million-dollar costs). [13].

Yet there is NO such urgency in dealing with the ongoing passive Aboriginal Genocide that surely kills 4,000 Indigenous Australians each year, 11 every day in one of the richest and most racist (albeit politically correct racist or PC racist) countries on Earth.

Australian Aboriginal Ethnocide.

Before the British invasion in 1788 there were 350-750 different Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal) tribes and a similar number of languages and dialects, of which only 150 survive today and of these all but about 20 are endangered in a process of continuing Australian Aboriginal Ethnocide and Cultural Genocide of remaining Indigenous societies (see Gideon Polya, “2015 perspective of ongoing Australian Aboriginal Genocide and Aboriginal Ethnocide ”, Aboriginal Genocide: https://sites.google.com/site/aboriginalgenocide/2015-perspective ) .

Now the conservative Coalition Federal and Western Australian governments have given a huge boost to the Australian Aboriginal Ethnocide by a policy of forcing closure of as many as 150 remote Aboriginal communities and ultra-conservative Australian PM Tony Abbott has highly offensively supported this, declaring that Indigenous Australians living on their own traditional lands and speaking their native languages constitute “lifestyle choices” that should not be subsidised by the Australian taxpayer (see Gideon Polya, “Abbott & Australian Aboriginal Ethnocide”, MWC News, 11 March 2015: http://mwcnews.net/focus/analysis/50239-australian-aboriginal.html ).

Removal of Aboriginal children from their mothers and communities, removal of Federal and State government support for remote Aboriginal communities, and substantial removal of instruction of Aboriginal children in their own language are all ultra-conservative measures that threaten destruction of most of the surviving Aboriginal languages and dialects. According to a recent study (2009): “At the end of 2008 the Northern Territory Government, supported by the Commonwealth Government, all but closed bilingual education in remote Indigenous schools by determining that the language of instruction for the first four hours of school must be English. This decision could spell the death of the remaining endangered Indigenous languages in Australia” (see Jane Simpson, Jo Caffery and Patrick McConvell, “Gaps in Australia's Indigenous Language Policy: Dismantling bilingual education in the Northern Territory ”, AIATSIS Discussion Paper Number 24, 2009).

Decent , anti-racist Australians will utterly reject the genocidally racist Coalition, vote 1 Green and put the Coalition last. A racist, genocidal and ethnocidal Apartheid Australia should increasingly face the weight of international Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) of the kind successfully applied against Apartheid South Africa and currently being applied against US Alliance-backed, nuclear terrorist, genocidally racist, democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel.

The national and international legal protection for Indigenous Australians has become far worse to the extent that it is now necessary to talk of Apartheid Australia in the same way people refer to the former race-based Apartheid South Africa and the continuing racist obscenity of racist Zionist-run Apartheid Israel.

Thus in 2007 Australia joined with the US, Canada and New Zealand in refusing to sign the United Nations Declaration on Indigenous Rights (however this stance by Apartheid Australia under the Howard Coalition Government was reversed in April 2009 by the Rudd Labor Government) . [14, 15].

However in relation to Indigenous Australians, spin- and greed-driven Apartheid Australia under the Australian Labor Party (aka the Apartheid labor Party and the Apartheid Israel-supporting Labor party) grossly violates the letter and spirit of the United Nations Declaration on Indigenous Rights as well as of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Rights of the Child Convention. [15 -17].

Thus in Apartheid Australia, Northern Territory Indigenous Australians are excluded by race-based legislation from the protection of the 1975 Racial Discrimination Act – they are forbidden to see, buy, use, transport, sell or consume things available to all other Australians; they can be exiled from their homes, communities and Sacred lands on the say so of White Apartheid Australian officials with no recourse to law; and their social service payments are subject to race-based Government control. Further, Northern Territory Indigenous Australians are subject to false, race-based defamation by Government and media; they are pressured to surrender their Sacred land to the government in return for minimal housing provided , together with other largesse, to all other Australians without such demands; and their children are compelled to be taught for 90% of the time in a foreign language (English) in a process of official ethnocide. [18-20].

The world must stop the Australian Aboriginal Genocide and Australian Aborignal Ethnocide by comprehensive international Sanctions and Boycotts against racist Apartheid Australia.

Further, Apartheid Australian politicians, public servants and others must be arraigned before the International Criminal Court for complicity in the ongoing Aboriginal Genocide. Indeed Dr Gideon Polya has made a formal complaint to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court re Australian Government involvement in Aboriginal Genocide, as well as Iraqi Genocide, Afghan Genocide and Climate Genocide (March 2008). [21].

A Note on the Legal Definition of Genocide.

Article 2 of the UN Genocide Convention states: “In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: a) Killing members of the group; b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.” [22].

"Intent" for Aboriginal Genocide was clearly explicitly articulated in the past. Thus the following quotes from the past (see p178, "Jane Austen and th4 Black Hole of British History) [1]:

“I have the honour to state that there are no aboriginals in my District.”- The Reverend James Walker, MA, Minister of the Church of England, North Parramatta (1846).

“Of the Australian black man we may certainly say that he has to go. That he should perish without unnecessary suffering should be the aim of all who are concerned in the matter”- Anthony Trollope (1873).

“Whether the Blacks deserve any mercy at the hands of the pioneering squatters is an open question, but that they get none is certain. They are a doomed race, and before many years they will be completely wiped out of the land”- Harold Finch-Hatton (1885).

However in politically correct racist (PC racist) Apartheid Australia explicitly articulated genocidal racism is socially forbidden - but in the absence of such articlated racist intention, "intent" for Aboriginal Genocide is clearly established by sustained, remorseless, long-term POLICY and PRACTICE that currently avoidably kills 4,000 Indigenous Australians every year.

While the terms “holocaust”, “genocide” and “Geneva Convention observance” are precisely defined, the terminology and shocking underlying substance of most of the chapter headings (see below) are overwhelmingly ignored by Western Mainstream politicians, academics and journalists in a process of ongoing holocaust ignoring and genocide ignoring that is far, far worse than repugnant holocaust denial and genocide denial because the latter at least permit refutation and public debate.

This appalling catalogue of human suffering and premature death in the 21st century Muslim Holocaust and Muslim Genocide should be considered in the context of atrocities in the 20th century and earlier. The Epilogue succinctly, quantitatively and comprehensively details deaths from violence and deprivation in man-made famines, holocausts, and genocides from the 19th century Irish Famine, the “forgotten” 1757-1947 Indian Holocaust, and the “forgotten” WW2 Bengali Holocaust to the 21st century Muslim Holocaust, and including the worsening Climate Genocide (Chapters 1, 19 & 21) and the ongoing Australian Aboriginal Genocide that is quantitatively compared with the ongoing Palestinian Genocide in Chapter 16.
