Standard 2a Artifact, Empowered Learning with Technology and a Shared Vision

At Silver Creek Central School (SCCS), I use Seesaw digital portfolios, for Pre-K through 2nd grade. The students are empowered by their creations and selections. It provides a purpose for their work. They revise, improve, and post it for their families to view. For my 3rd-through 5th grade students, they (and their families) can connect to their work with Schoology. Schoology is a learning management system that has really amped-up my ability to differentiate my instruction, so students can learn at their personal pace. Below includes SCCS's vision, mission, and belief statements. In order to "shape, advance and accelerate", a school needs to have a shared vision. You can also link to Seesaw and Schoology to explore these web-based programs. Both can be used on an IPad or computer. Which is handy!

Standard 2b Artifact, Parent Survey and Technology Information Night

I am reaching out to the community with a Parent Survey , social media Twitter @rabywestlund , and Hour of Code Parent Information to shape the view of education stakeholders. I plan on hosting a parent information meeting early next fall and will refer to Common Sense Media (for resources). I hope to have food and advertisements, so community members can see what our school has to offer our children. I want to build my blog to educate people and encourage support for technology literacy.

Standard 2c Artifact, Teacher Training and Board Presentation

I have been helping educators by sharing administrative rights on accounts, like Schoology and Seesaw. This allows me to help them manage their classrooms' portfolios. I can also model various portfolio entries and course work. Parent feedback has been positive.

I collaborate with teachers weekly. Teachers need practice and collaboration time to share what is working and troubleshoot what is not working. The linked Teacher Training Power Point is an example of some of the online course I'm hosting for teachers.

Teachers need time to explore new digital resources, without the pressure of performing in front of their students. By having training online and after school, we can support each other and be better prepared for our students.

Next, I will present our work to the Board. Hopefully, technology will become more and more authentic.
