Community Attachment Scheme (CAS)

The Community Attachment Scheme (CAS) is part of the Introductory Clinical Competence. The emphasis of the course is on the psychosocial rather than the clinical aspects of health and illness. Students will be required to attend tutorials, led by a Behavioural Scientist and a GP who will allocate a patient for the students to meet in their own home. Students will be provided with guidance before meeting their patient.

During the tutorials, students will share their experience of the meetings with other students in their group. The scheme provides a unique opportunity to meet people from Sheffield and the surrounding area, in their own homes, at an early stage of the pre-clinical course.

"Taking part in Phase 1 Early Years teaching for the first time has been a hugely enjoyable experience. I have absolutely loved getting to know a small group of enthusiastic young people and the continuity and regularity of the sessions has felt really positive. l love teaching! My patients love it too and I can’t wait for next year to do it again." - Tara George, Early Years Tutor, Wingerworth Surgery, Chesterfield
