What is the Advanced Opportunities Program? By law, students attending Idaho public schools are eligible for up to $4,125 to use for Dual Credit Courses, Overload Courses, Credit-Bearing Examinations, and Workforce Training.

What is a Dual Credit Course? Advanced Opportunities will pay up to $75 a credit. See the Dual Credit tab for more details and instructions on how to sign up.

What is an Overload Course? An Overload Course is an online, high school-level course taken in addition to a full CHS schedule. Overload classes can be taken during the school year and/or during the summer. Advanced Opportunities will pay up to $75 a credit. The program will not pay for a remedial/retake course. This is only for students who are jumping ahead in their coursework. The most common platform used for Overload classes is Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA). Please see your counselor for more details and to sign up.

What is a Credit-Bearing Examination? A Credit-Bearing Examination is a test where, if a student passes, they receive college credit. Advanced Opportunities will pay for these exams: Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Career Technical Education (CTE).

What is Workforce Training? The State Board of Education has designated certain jobs as "high demand" for Southeast Idaho. Advanced Opportunities will pay up to $500 for ISU Workforce Training classes in these regionally approved fields: Nursing Assistant (CNA), Welding, Machining, Electrical Apprenticeship, Plumbing Apprenticeship, and HVAC Apprenticeship.

What happens if students fail? There are consequences to failing or withdrawing from a class that Advanced Opportunities paid for. The State of Idaho is investing tax-payer money in you! Your end of the deal is to earn the credits you said you would when you signed up for a Dual Credit or Overload course. If you fail or withdraw, you didn't hold up your end of the deal. Therefore, you must pay for your next Dual Credit or Overload course yourself before Advanced Opportunities will start paying again.
