5th Grade

5th Graders do a lot of digital learning in their classrooms and the 5th Grade Team does a great job of incorporating tech without me, so any opportunity I get to work alongside them, I'm super pumped! Ms. LeCates and I talked about math stations for 4th grade and I'd been wanting to do some Breakouts with the upper grades, so this was the perfect chance to do one! And, it allowed Ms. LeCates to have some of her students leave the room to practice some skills so she could focus on the others in her room. Here are some photos from Group 1.

Things I've learned:

  • No matter what, there will always be a kink or mistake, so don't kick yourself when something goes wrong. We adjusted as we went.
  • Small groups are so easy to work with in a Breakout scenario and helps students "learn" a Breakout without the pressure of the whole class.
  • It's REALLY hard to stay quiet and let them work through their struggles and mistakes. I need more practice!
  • No matter their age, kids LOVE to be successful and when they figured out the code to the "pranked" ipad, they cheered!!!

I loved the conversations that this group had. They worked really well together and they weren't afraid to try things.

Quotes from this group:

  • What if we try this and then if this doesn't work, we can try your idea?- Paige
  • Remember what she said, "Don't do it in your head." Hey, that rhymes!- Ava
  • Stud? I'm a stud!- Brandon
