IUD (intrauterine device / T型避孕环)
What is an IUD?
IUD stands for intrauterine device (T型避孕环). It is a small device shaped like a T that is inserted into the uterus by a doctor. Once inserted, the IUD protects against pregnancy for 3-5 years, or until it is removed. Many people choose the IUD because it is an effective form of birth control that doesn't require remembering to take a pill every day.
There are two types of IUDs, and a doctor can help you choose which type and brand is best for you.
Hormonal IUDs use hormones to prevent pregnancy and last from 3-8 years, depending on the brand.
Copper IUDs do not use hormones and last for up to 12 years.
