Digital Tools

All web tools used at Powderhorn Elementary School are in compliance with Student Data Privacy Laws. Read more about these laws from the Colorado Department of Education. In an effort to conform to state law mandates and communicate to our families how their child's information is being shared, Powderhorn staff will openly communicate which technology tools (software, apps, extensions, etc.) are being used as learning tools in our classrooms. All tech tools we plan to use with students for the school year are listed below with links to each website.

Kahoot--Kahoot allows users to create game based formative assessments using multiple choice questions. Kahoot provides a fun interactive platform for students which includes avatars, leaderboards, themes, and more.

Canva--Canva is a tool students can use to create digital graphics and infographics. Students can use existing templates or create their own designs. Canva is an excellent tool for creating posters, memes, logos and other digital graphics.

Digital Compass (Common Sense Media)--Digital Compass is a choose-your-own adventure, interactive game. Developed for 6th to 9th graders and available in English and Spanish languages, Digital Compass lets students step into the shoes of one of eight characters to experience the twists and turns of daily digital life.

Digital Passport (Common Sense Media)--Digital Passport - Web-based games and videos engage 3rd - 5th graders in independent learning around digital citizenship topics.

Code.org--code.org is a tool that teaches students simple scripting and development. Students gain exposure to computer science in a fun and interactive manner.

Scratch--Scratch allows you to program your own interactive stories, games, and animations. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively - essential skills for life in the 21st century.

Powtoon--Powtoon is a tool students can use to create animated videos and presentations. Students can use Powtoon to easily explain their thinking in a creative cartoon.

Type to Learn --Type to Learn allows students to increase their keyboarding skills with individualized lessons and parent reports.

Pixton--Pixton is a visual writing tool that allows students to design cartoons. Students can publish their work to the web.

Google Apps--Google Apps Education Edition is a package of Google applications that live on the internet "cloud." The applications contained in Jeffco's Google Apps are Docs, Sites, Calendar, Google+ Photos, YouTube (for staff), Gmail and Contacts - all within a safe and secure domain for students and staff of Jeffco Schools.
