AP US History Prep

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As your child’s AP United States History teacher, I look forward to an exciting year of instruction, analysis, projects, and research activities as we expand our knowledge and appreciation of this country’s history.

The purpose of this course is to survey the economic, social, political, geographic, and constitutional foundations of the United States from colonial origins to the present. This course also seeks to teach and encourage students to think critically and creatively about the past, present, and future. Emphasis is placed on chronological thinking, historical comprehension, historical analysis and interpretation, and historical research capabilities. This course will include the South Carolina End-of-Course (EOC) exam and the Advanced Placement US History exam in May. In order to cover the amount of material that will be included on these exams, homework will be assigned most every day. In addition, attendance is extremely important in this class.  There is also a summer assignment that the students will need to complete to be able to cover all the information for the AP Exam.

Please review the course syllabus with your son/daughter. The syllabus contains valuable information, including the grading policy, course requirements and expectations. If you have any questions, e-mail is the best way to contact me. My e-mail is whorn@greenvilleschools.us Also, please feel free to call (864) 355-8879.

I look forward to a successful year.

Sincerely,

William F. Horn II
