Course Description: This course provides students with an introduction to the Latin Language. Students will learn basic Latin grammar and vocabulary and be introduced to both Ancient and Medieval history and Literature to provide context for the language. Finally the course will look at the ways that Latin language and culture have influence the modern world.

Couse Goal: Students will be able to read basic Latin passages, use and respond to basic Latin phrases, and understand Latin grammar.

Grading Scale:


Major Assessments 60%

Minor Assessments 40%

Exams will count as 20% of the semester grade in accordance with district policy.

A- 100-90

B- 89-80

C- 79-70

D- 69-60

F- 59-0

Types of Assignments:

Major: Generally speaking, there will be 2-3 tests and 1 project each quarter.

Minor: Classwork will be collected into one or two larger grades each week.

Late Work Policy: 10 points off per day, max of 60 if turned in by end of unit, max of 50 if turned in after the unit.

2. Do not talk out of turn.

3. Be in your seat.

4. Respect other people. Respect our Environment.

5. I will enforce all policies in the GHS Student Handbook.

Failure to comply with class rules will result in a lunch detention. If problems persist, the student will be given a referral.

Pacing:

Quarter 1: Ecce Romani Chapters 1-6; Roman Kingdom and Republic

Quarter 2: Ecce Romani Chapters 7-11; Punic Wars, Political Turmoil

Quarter 3: Ecce Romani Chapters 12-16; Civil Wars, Roman Empire

Quarter 4: Ecce Romani Chapters 17-21; Rise of Christianity, Fall or Rome
