For Students

Classroom Guidelines and Expectations

  1. Be here. You need to be in your assigned seat when the bell rings or you will be counted tardy. After receiving three tardies, you will be assigned a Step, and, worse, be on my mental list of kids who don't care about my class. Stay off that list.
  2. Be responsible. Bring everything you'll need, such as paper, a pen/pencil, and work that's due. All assignments and projects are collected at the beginning of class on the due date. Late homework will not receive credit (I don't assign that much homework anyway, so when I do, please turn it in on time. Also - don't moan, complain, or roll your eyes when I give you that very rare homework assignment.). Major projects, such as projects and speeches, will be accepted for late credit (-10 points each day it's late). You are responsible for getting any missed notes or assignments that were given during your absence. Obviously, things that can be completed during your absence are expected on the day you return. If work was given that you didn't have access to, you'll be given up to five days to complete the work. Make-up work will not be given for days of suspension or unexcused absences. If you suffer an extended illness, contact me to discuss a schedule for you to turn in your work.
  3. Be respectful. You are expected to be courteous and respectful to all students, teachers, and guests. There will be no swearing, name-calling, or snide comments. Also, use of technology at inappropriate times is rude and, per school policy, any student using a device without teacher permission is subject to Beck's discipline policy. Remember, you control your technology; it shouldn't control you.
  4. Be awesome. Think for yourself. If you merely parrot back to me things I already said in class, you will not have a good year. If, however, you are willing to think deeply, take risks, and work like a madman, then you'll love this class.

Beck Academy's 5-Step Plan

Failure to follow class rules and disruptions to class will result in the student receiving a step. The school’s 5 Step Plan is explained below.

1st Step - Warning to student

2nd Step - Parent contact

3rd Step - Detention with parent contact

4th Step - Detention with parent contact

5th Step - Referral to Office

In the event of a more severe offense, the teacher may go directly to a referral to the grade level administrator or have the student removed from class which will also result in a referral.
