About Ms. Royal

I was born in Greensboro, NC, and moved to Atlanta when I was nine years old. I graduated from Georgia State University with a B.S. in Education, with a focus on English and Social Studies. Ironically, my first teaching job was at Beck Academy, where I spent three years teaching sixth grade Language Arts. During my (first) time at Beck, I served as English/Language Arts Department Chair, Junior Beta Club Sponsor, Cheerleading Coach, and a mentor to new teachers.

I love the beach and had the opportunity to move to South Florida in 2009 when I began teaching high school Honors and AP courses at a private school in Jupiter, FL. While teaching in Florida, I also served as the Creative Writing Festival Coordinator, Discipline Review Committee Member, Class Sponsor, and Varsity Cheerleading Assistant Coach. I moved back to Greenville during the summer of 2012, and began teaching 7th and 8th grades at the Charles Townes Center at Sterling School. Last year I came back to teach at Beck Academy, and am excited for another year teaching 8th grade history :)

When I'm not busy teaching, you can catch me working out, soaking up the sun, spending time with friends and family, attempting to garden, and reading. I love traveling and have spent time in Italy, Costa Rica, Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and various locations throughout the United States. Greece is next on my list! :)

5 Fun Facts About Me:

  1. I am a Georgia Bulldogs fan.
  2. I feel most at home at the beach.
  3. I learned to surf in Costa Rica.
  4. If I could eat one food for the rest of my life it would be chips and salsa. Or sweet potatoes.
  5. I'm deathly afraid of frogs. And more recently: cicadas.
