2018 - 2019 Honors Chorus

Congratulations to our 2018 -2019 Grove Eagles Honors Chorus students. We had over 100 students to audition to be a part of the group this year. We are keeping approximately 60 of these students. I am really looking forward to working with them each Tuesday and Thursday morning 7:15 a.m. - 7:55 a.m. in the music room. Once we finish rehearsal, they will be dismissed to eat breakfast in their classroom and continue with their day. To save time, I encourage the students to eat breakfast before they arrive at school so they are not hungry during rehearsal.

We will be preparing for the following programs before we leave for the Christmas / Winter Break so it is very important that your student attends all rehearsals so they can learn their parts and any choreography that we will do with a song.

Programs Before The Christmas/Winter Break 1. Monday, September 24, 2018 - Grove PTA and Open House - 6 p.m. in the cafeteria 2. Monday, November 12, 2018 - Veteran's Day Program - 8:30 a.m. at Grove Elementary School 3. Monday, December 3, 2018 - All School Christmas Concert "Toys, The Night They Came Alive" If your student needs to miss a rehearsal, please email me tmanigau@greenville.k12.sc.us or call my room -864-355-5927. Below are the lyrics to the songs we are learning. You may click on the YouTube Clips to gain an idea of how each of the songs should sound. On occasion, I will change up a song to make it a better fit for our group. If you have any questions, please call me at 864-35-5927 during this time 1:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. If I do not answer, please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible.

The Star Spangled Banner - The American National Anthem - By Francis Scott Key

Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, o're the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming. And the rocket’s red glare, those bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night; that our flag was still there. Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave; o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

You’re A Grand Old Flag - https://youtu.be/TeybBbwQpWc

You're a grand old flag, you're a high flying flag, and forever in peace may you wave! You're the emblem of the land I love, the home of the free and the brave. Every heart beats true for the red, white, and blue, and there's never a boast or brag. And may all acquaintance be forgot, keep your eye on the grand old flag.

America The Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain; for purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee; and crown thy good with brotherhood; from sea to shining sea!

America

My country, 'tis of Thee, Sweet Land of Liberty Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims' pride, From every mountain side Let Freedom ring.

God bless America, Land that I love, Stand beside her and guide her through the night with a light from above; from the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam, God bless America, my home, sweet home. God bless America, my home, sweet home.

God Bless The U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood https://youtu.be/8wFwe5GnK2A

Solo - If tomorrow all the things were gone, I’d worked for all my life. And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife. I’d thank my lucky stars, to be living here today. Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can’t take that away.

Chorus - And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the people who died, who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.

Solo - From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee. Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea. From Detroit down to Houston, and New York to L.A. There's pride in every American heart, and it’s time we stand and say.

Chorus - And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the people who died, who gave that right to me; and I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.

The American Military Salute - https://youtu.be/zudFEvTj9H0

The Army - “The Caisson Song” Over hill--, over dale---, we will hit the dusty trail, and the caissons go rolling along. In and out, hear them shout, counter march and right about, And the caissons go rolling along. Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hee! in the field artillery. Shout out your numbers loud and strong! (Loud and strong!) For where ever you go, you will always know that the caissons are rolling along.

The Navy - “Anchors Aweigh” Anchors aweigh, my boys, anchors aweigh. Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day (day, day, day). Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam. Until we meet once more, here’s wishing you a happy voyage home.

The Coast Guard - “Semper Paratus” - (It means “always ready” in Latin) We’re always ready for the call, we place our trust in Thee. Through surf and storm and howling gale, high shall our purpose be. “Semper Paratus” is our guide, our fame and glory, too. To fight, to save, to fight and die! Aye! Coast Guard we are for you!

The Air Force - “The U.S. Air Force” Off we go into the wild, blue yonder, Climbing high into the sun. Here they come zooming to meet our thunder, “At them boys, give ‘er the gun!” Down the dive, spouting your flame from under, off on one terrible course! We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey, nothing will stop the U.S. Air Force.

The Marines - “The Marine’s Hymn” From the Halls of Montezu---ma to the shores of Tripoli, We will fight our country’s battles in the air, on land and sea. First to fight for right and freedom and to keep our honor clean. We are proud to claim the title of United States Marines.

1. I close my eyes and I can see, The world that's waiting up for me; That I call my own, Through the dark, through the door through where no one's been before, But it feels like home

2. They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy, they can say, they can say I've lost my mind

3. I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy, we can live in a world that we design------

4. 'Cause every night I lie in bed, The brightest colors fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake-----

5. I think of what the world could be, A vision of the one I see, a million dreams is all its gonna take------a million dreams for the world we're gonna make! Ah--------

6. There's a house we can build, Every room inside is filled, with things from far away

7. The special things I compile, Each one there to make you smile, on a rainy day

8. They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy, they can say, they can say we've lost our minds

9. I don't care, I don't care if they call us crazy, runaway to a world that we design

10. Cause Every night I lie in bed, The brightest colors fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake

11. I think of what the world could be, A vision of the one I see, a million dreams is all its gonna take; a million dreams for the world we're gonna make

14. To the world I close my eyes to see, I close my eyes to see-----

15. Every night I lie in bed, the brightest colors fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake, a million dreams, a million dreams

16. I think of what the world could be, A vision of the one I see, a million dreams is all its gonna take, a million dreams for the world we're gonna make--------For the world we're gonna make –---Woooo------Ah---------

Awesome Christmas Concerts

Thanks to all of the parents and students who participated on the December 3, 2018 Christmas Concert at Southside H. S. I am thrilled that so many of the students were there to display the vocal, and acting skills. The Honors Chorus did a beautiful of presenting: Toys! The Night They Came Alive. This was followed by our wonderful K5 & 1st Graders singing together. Our 2nd & 3rd Grade students raised their performance level by doing an outstanding job. Finally our 4th & 5th grade students did a marvelous job of singing to close out another concert.
