Class Rules and Policies

Classroom Rules

1. Be respectful (people, place, things, and self)

2. Be on time (class and assignments)

3. Be prepared (materials, minds, and assignments)

4. Follow all lab safety rules (Could I hurt myself, others, or property?)

5. Follow school rules (Student agenda – cell phones, food, etc…)

I try my best to handle all discipline problems with my students. I feel that the students tend to be more respectful this way. This does not always work; therefore, further actions must be taken. Any serious offenses will immediately receive a referral and parent notification.

  • Homework Policy

Students are expected to do all homework assignments and projects and turn them in on time. Homework is a valuable source of learning and needs to be done when assigned.

  • Missed Work/Make-up Policy

Students are responsible for finding out what they missed from another student, by e-mailing/calling me prior to the next day of class, and/or checking the assignments on this webpage and/or their Google classroom. The students have five days to make up work for the absences excused by the office. If the student does not complete make-up work in the allotted time, a grade of zero will be recorded for the assignment. Remember that attendance is essential for a student to be successful in class.

  • Attendance and Tardy Policy

Students are expected to attend class each day. Material will be covered in class that is not in the textbook; so students must get notes from a fellow classmate or schedule a time with me to copy them. Students are allowed only five days of absences; this includes both excused and unexcused days. After five days, all other days missed must be excused by the administration or a doctor to prevent the possibility of the student failing the class. Students are expected to be in their seats when the tardy bell rings. The tardy policy, found in the student agenda, will be followed if a student is tardy without an appropriate note.

  • Food Policy

Food is not allowed in my classroom for the following reasons:

1. It is school policy (found in the student agenda).

2. Biology is a lab science, which means that we will be using and working with chemicals and other living organisms. If any of these chemicals or organisms were to be accidentally mixed with food or drink then it could possibly harm your child.

I WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO HAVE BOTTLED WATER IN MY CLASSROOM AS LONG IT HAS A CAP AND IT STAYS IN THE STUDENT'S BOOKBAG WHEN THEY ARE NOT USING IT.

  • Daily Objectives and Homework Assignments

The front board in my class will always have the day's objectives for learning and the homework, project, lab, quiz, or test due dates for the week. It is recommended that students copy their future assigments in their agendas so that they are prepared to turn in assignments on time and/or study for quizzes and tests.
