What is Social and Emotional Learning?
How do Bryson Middle School Counselors support the social and emotional development of our students?
Students will complete a 30-minute questionnaire in the Fall and in the Spring, which will ask students questions such as how they handle emotions and how they feel their skills are developing in respect to relationships or decision-making on a given scale.
Based on the results of the questionnaire, counselors will prepare classroom guidance lessons and facilitate small groups for students who want or need additional support.
Students will receive 1-2 lessons per month and participate in activities to strengthen social and emotional skills through our ReThinkED program.
Bryson is beginning a new initiative during our SAIL (or Homeroom) period. Our Animal House Fridays will allow students to meet with a trusted teacher or staff member to discuss goals for the year and participate in team building activities with their peers. The purpose is to make sure each student has one adult in the school they feel comfortable with and can approach for support when needed.
If you or your student would prefer not to engage in the SEL lessons, please reach out to your grade level counselor for an opt-out form.
