Procedures and Expectations

Classroom Expectations :

I expect my students to be prepared for class each day. I will always be prepared for you and wish you the best language learning experience. Please know that we are expecting the best from you as well.

I believe that the first and most important rule is respect.

I will show you respect as individuals and I expect the same from you in return.

In order to achieve this, most of the procedures and the expectations asked of you in the classroom require a respectful attitude and a willingness to participate in classroom activities.

Here are some of the procedures in place to help you learn and keep you safe, while creating a respectful classroom for you:

1. Tardies – The room will be locked after the bell rings. You have 5 minutes to get to class for an excused tardy. If you are tardy for longer than 5 minutes, it will be unexcused.

2. Warm-Ups/Bellwork – You will find a start-up exercise to complete when entering the classroom. You are expected to login to google classroom to complete the Warm-up for the day. or complete the Bellwork on a sheet of paper. You will receive a warm-up grade for each quarter. Please be prepared each day for class and begin the warm-up at the start of class.

3. <<Levez la main!>>means raise your hand. Students are expected to raise their hand if they have a question. Please try to use as much French as possible. A list of Target Language Phrases will be given out the first week of class.

4. Hall Passes -If you need to go somewhere, you will follow a procedure. Please do not ask to go to the restroom or anywhere without signing out in Smart Pass. Each student will receive 4 restroom passes per quarter to use. You will need to ask in French to go to the restroom and I will write you a pass. You must sign out on the clipboard before leaving class. You will also need to remember to sign back in upon return to class.

1- Levez la main! and ask in French.

2- Sign out on the clipboard.

3- Sign back in upon return.

5. Talking – When others are talking, you should not be speaking.

6. Moving around the room – You are not permitted to get out of seats while I am giving instruction. When we are working in participation mode, you may throw things away or get supplies as needed.

7. Food, Drinks, and Gum – At times, in French class, we may have food, drinks, and maybe gum, but on normal days, please bring only water to class.

8. Belongings – Please keep all of your belongings out of walking areas and under your desk. This is for your safety and also for the safety of others.

9. Fire Drills – I take school-wide drills very seriously, because they pertain to your safety. With this in mind, any misconduct will not be tolerated.

10. Cell phones are not allowed to be out, unless you have been given permission. Please keep them stored appropriately during class. They will be allowed only during the last 20 minutes of class if your class earns this privilege. They will not be allowed for the first 3 weeks of class.

11. Classroom Citizenship – I expect my students to be good citizens in class and to treat others with respect. I will not tolerate name-calling or bullying in class. If you are being bullied, please do not hesitate to tell me or another staff member that you trust. You may also report these anonymously on your chromebooks.

12. Physical Contact – It is very important that you respect another student’s space and belongings. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

13. Classroom Materials – There are materials in the classroom for you to use. Please treat the materials with respect so that other people may use the items later. Also, remember to put materials back before you leave class. There are some materials that are for you and other materials belong to me. Please ask another student to borrow materials before asking me.

14. Absences: Refer to a friend’s notebook to see any notes we took in class. This is the best way to access missed notes. If you are absent for a quiz or test, you will need to stay after school or arrange to come in early to make up tests or quizzes. If the assignment is not made up within 5 school days, the assignment will be entered as a zero. I will stay after school on on select days if students need to make up assignments. If you need to stay after school to make up a quiz or test, sign up on the calendar on the bookshelf.

15. Late work – When an assignment is turned in late, it will not receive full credit. The late work policy (new) First 2 days will receive a grace grade of 80. After this, it will receive half credit.

16. Cheating and Plagiarism – Students who cheat or plagiarize, will be given a zero and will be subject to further disciplinary action. Please use online tools responsibly.

17. Dismissal – We will sometimes do a closure activity at the end of the period. It may be reviewing concepts, practicing what we have learned or studied, or reflecting on the progress we are making. They will give us an idea of how we are doing in class and will not be graded. Students are expected to remain seated for class dismissal. Wait for <<Bonne journée!>>

18. Extra Help – I am available for extra help after school by appointment. Please email me or make an appointment in person to receive additional help. I am invested in helping you learn and I am usually available most afternoons to stay and help students. Please take advantage of this opportunity to go over concepts or assignments that you need to review more closely.

19. Chromebooks - Please be sure that your chromebooks are always charged and ready for class. If you forget to charge your chromebook, there is a chromebook and an additional charger that is available for you use. You will have to wait to use these materials if they are already being used. If you continually have problems with your chromebook in class, please get help in the CSR (Chromebook Support Room)

20. Extra Credit and Points - Students will have opportunities to earn additional points throughout the semester. Please take advantage of these opportunities when they come around. Here are some of the ways you can earn additional points.

  1. Holiday activities - puzzles
