Gŵyliaith yn dathlu dwyieithrwydd yn y sector addysg ôl-14
Cynhaliwyd cynhadledd flynyddoedd Sgiliaith, Gŵyliaith, ar y cyd rhwng ColegauCymru a NTfW yng nghanolfan yr Urdd yng Nghaerdydd ar Fai 27, 2017.
Hon oedd y gynhadledd gyntaf o’i math oedd yn cyfuno holl ddarpariaeth cyfrwng addysg ôl-14, Addysg Bellach a Dysgu Seiliedig ar Waith a phwysigrwydd sgiliau dwyieithog i fyfyrwyr yn y ddau sector pwysig hyn.
Cafwyd cefnogaeth ragorol gan adran y Gymraeg, Llywodraeth Cymru yn ystod y misoedd oedd yn dilyn i fyny tuag at y gynhadledd, a braf iawn oedd cael croesawu Bethan Webb, Pennaeth y Gymraeg yn Llywodraeth Cymru i draddodi’r neges agoriadol.
Un o brif amcanion y gynhadledd oedd i greu platfform i rannu syniadau ac arferion da yn y maes addysgu dwyieithog, ac i wneud hynny drwy ddathlu llwyddiannau yn y maes yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf. Cafwyd cyflwyniad diddorol gan Owen Derbyshire o gwmni 21, sy’n cynnig gwasanaethau ymgynghori marchnata i fusnesau, a hynny’n ddwyieithog.
Rhoddodd Lowri Morgans o Goleg Sir Gâr flas i ni o’r hyn mae’r coleg yn ei wneud er mwyn hybu a meithrin addysg cyfrwng Cymraeg a dwyieithog ymysg eu myfyrwyr.
Roeddem yn hynod o falch hefyd i glywed am y gwaith arloesol sy’n cael ei wneud ym maes prentisiaethau gan yr Urdd er mwyn ceisio normaleiddio’r Gymraeg fel cyfrwng iaith yn y gweithle gan Rhodri Jones a Gary Lewis.
Un o ddatblygiadau mawr y cyfnod hwn, oedd sefydlu’r Ganolfan Dysgu Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. Felly roeddem yn hynod o ffodus o fod wedi llwyddo i gael Dona Lewis o’r ganolfan i siarad am y prosiect arloesol “Cymraeg Gwaith”.
Cafwyd dau gyflwyniad hynod o ddiddorol gan Jennie Gill o Feithrinfa Little Inspirations a Huw Marshall o’r Awr Gymraeg am bwysigrwydd sgiliau dwyieithog yn y gweithle, a phwysigrwydd bod gan y Gymraeg bresenoldeb gweledol ar-lein.
I orffen, cafwyd cyflwyniad hynod o hwyliog gan Angharad Mai Roberts o Sgiliaith, a Ryan Evans o NtFW am eu profiadau diweddar yn ymweld â Chatalwnia fel rhan o brosiect Ewropeaidd Erasmus+ er mwyn dysgu am ddarpariaeth addysg ddwyieithog yno.
Gŵyliaith celebrating bilingualism in the post-14 education sector
Sgiliaith's annual conference, Gŵyliaith, was organised together with CollegesWales and NTfW at the Urdd centre, the Millennium Centre in Cardiff on May 27, 2017.
This was the first conference of it's kind to combine the whole provision of post-14 education, Further Education and Work Based Learning and the benefits of bilingualism to students in this important sector.
We received excellent support from the Welsh Government in the months leading up to the conference, and we were extremely happy to welcome Bethan Webb the Head of Welsh at the Welsh Government to give the opening address.
One of the main objectives of the conference was to give a platform so people could share ideas and good practice in the field of bilingual education, and to do that through celebrating some of the successes in the field during the last few years. Owen Derbyshire from 21, gave an interesting insight as a young marketing executive of the importance of bilingual skills in the marketplace.
Lowri Morgans, from Coleg Sir Gâr gave us a taste of the work that's done at the college to promote and build on Welsh language and bilingual education at the college.
We were exited to hear about the innovative work that's been done by the Urdd in the field of apprenticeships by Rhodri Jones and Gary Lewis in a bid to try and normalise the Welsh language in the workplace.
One of the main developments during this time, was the establishment of the Centre for Learning Welsh. We were very fortunate to have been able to welcome Dona Lewis, from the centre, to talk about the innovative project "Welsh at Work".
Two very interesting talks were given by Jennie Gill from Little Inspirations Nursery, and Huw Marshall from the Awr Gymraeg, about the importance of bilingual skills in the workplace, and the importance of Welsh having a high visibility on the web.
To finish, we had a very informative talk from Angharad Mai Roberts from Sgiliaith, and Ryan Evans from NtFW about their recent trip as part of the Eramsus+ European project to Catalonia to learn more about the bilingual education provision in the country.
