School Nurse

Tara Kern, RN, BSN, is a Delsea alumni and TCNJ graduate. She has a background in public health and has worked at Delsea Middle School as the school nurse for 20 years. As the school nurse she supports student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all children within the school setting. She addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of students and supports their achievement in the learning process. Mrs. Kern is able to provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness, develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities, educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene, and detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings. She also tracks the vaccination records of students, updates medical information and history and ensures compliance with national and local health laws. Mrs. Kern assists in making sure the school environment is safe for children and school staff through the prevention and tracking of communicable diseases in the school community. Mrs. Kern lives in Monroeville, NJ with her husband and four children.
