Eligibility Requirements:

Behind the Wheel Fee:

In order to earn a Behind the Wheel Completion card for a potential insurance discount, a student is required to complete 6 hours of Behind the Wheel instruction.  The Pennsylvania Department of Education only allows a student to receive up to 1 hour of instruction a day.  At Wilson School District, Behind the Wheel consists of 9 (40 minute) school day lessons or 6 (60 minute) summer day lessons.  If the instructor feels the students is not capable of completing all of the required skills, the parent may purchase addition lessons for their child.  Only a student who has completed a minimum of 6 hours and all of the required skills will be issued an insurance discount card.  Please see the fee breakdown listed below.

Behind the Wheel fees are subject to change year to year, pending the district's finance committee's findings at their April meeting.  New fees go into effect July 1st of the year.  When signing up for behind the wheel, you understand that you may be required to pay the higher rate, if a rate increase is approved.

Payment for Behind the Wheel is not paid until your child has started their lessons.  There is no payment required or accepted for signing up for the program.

Behind the Wheel Instructor Philosophy:    "I help young men and women move through a rite of passage, and my job is getting them to think about this time in their lives.  Having a driver's license means you move out of the backseat into the driver's seat.  You aren't a passenger anymore.  You're in charge!  You can go where you want to go.  You have power now.  So that's what we talk about, the power, their new power, opportunity, and responsibility.  About their dreams, hopes, and what they fear.  About 'someday' and 'what if.'"
