Student-Invited Speakers

Student-Invited Speakers

There is one “Student-Invited Speaker” event per year.

    • This speaker may be proposed by one or more students/postdocs in September/October and is voted on by all students/postdocs
    • The speaker with the most votes from students and post-docs is invited.
    • Surrounding this person's talk, which we would like to schedule the following spring, we would have a barbecue or other small events to really get the speaker to interact with students as much as possible
    • If there is a lot of interest in multiple speakers / having more speakers, this format can be adjusted

Students are encouraged to invite speakers for the weekly seminar.

    • However, they should get the OK from their PI and then Alberto Pereda, who organizes the seminar schedule. This is to ensure that other faculty members would be interested in attending the seminar and meeting with the speaker during their visit.
    • The inviting student will assume responsibility for reaching out to other students to attend lunch and/or dinner, which they can do by sending an email to ngso@phd.einstein.yu.edu to be forwarded to the NGSO mailing list.
    • They may also assume responsibility for working with Jennifer to set up the speaker's itinerary, which may involve reaching out to other faculty to have them meet with the speaker.
