Diana Casper Scholarship

The Diana Casper Fund was established to support an outstanding female graduate student to attend the conference. Below is information from a flyer the Casper family circulates to friends and family to raise money for the fund.

“In honor of Diana Casper’s (Ph.D. 88) lifelong work in neuroscience and her passion for teaching, a fund in Diana’s name has been established to inspire young women in neuroscience. This fund will support a graduate student’s participation in the annual national meeting of the Society for Neuroscience. Diana always looked forward to this meeting, which she considered a vital source of inspiration and enlightenment in the field of neuroscience. She always encouraged her students to attend with her, often personally paying their way.

By supporting a bright young woman graduate student at the Society for Neuroscience meeting every year, Diana’s memory shall live on.”

The only requirements are that the recipient of the Scholarship must attend any event that is specifically targeted to women in neuroscience, and also must submit a letter describing her experiences at the SfN meeting.

In the past, the department Chair selected the award recipient. Starting this year, however, the award recipient will be selected by the students themselves and the Neuroscience Graduate Student Organization will coordinate the process. Nominated students should be more than halfway though their graduate studies, and the quality of the student's science is the highest priority.
