Contemporary Mathematics

Welcome

Contemporary Mathematics with Modeling is a course for students who have completed three years of Algebra and Geometry instruction who intend to pursue college algebra, calculus, or other applications in mathematics. Content will focus on modeling phenomena using a variety of function types and explorations of the three dimensional world through vector, parametric and polar functions. Students will be asked to propose ideas, explain solutions, and revise assumptions and conclusions.

Materials

Students choosing to use printed materials are suggested to have a 1” 3-ring binder with dividers or three 2-pocket folders with prongs dedicated exclusively to math.

In addition to the supplies required for all classes (paper, pencil, highlighter), students must also have the following in class each day:

  • graph paper

  • a dry erase marker (in class)

  • a graphing calculator (TI-84 or similar TI calculator strongly recommended)
