Exporting Data

This manual is meant to complement your training and is not intended to replace on-the-job training.

Important: Some of the Export Parameters may not do exactly what you expect! Read the explanations at the end of this section carefully!

    1. Open the file with the measurement you wish to export. Highlight the measurement(s) you wish to export, and in the File menu, select Export.

  1. Choose the options "Export to File" and "Export Selection Only", then click the Browse button to select a file name for your exported data.

    1. Go into the Parameters tab (Do not click OK yet).

    2. Select "Use Export Template Parameters", and select a template from the list. If you have not already set up a template for yourself, you can create a new one with the folder button. Give it a name, then highlight it and click on the Edit button (circled in blue). This will bring up a new window to edit the template.

    1. Go to the Parameters tab in this new window. Here you can add and remove various information from the export template. By default, it will list things like Sample Name, Measurement Date and Time, S/W Version (software version), etc. Use the left arrow button to move information out of your template. Or highlight a piece of information that you want in your template and use the right arrow button to move it into your template. Once you have a list of only the information that you want to export, you can use the up and down arrows to change the order it will appear in the spreadsheet. See the last page for common information you might want to export and some important explanations.

    1. Click OK in this window, then OK in the original window. Your data will be saved as a text file in the location you selected in step 2.

    2. You can open your exported data in any spreadsheet program. All of your information will be arranged in the top two rows of the spreadsheet, from left to right in the order you set up in the template.

Explanations of Export Template Parameters

Histograms:

  • To export histogram data, you need TWO parameters, one for the x-axis data and one for the y-axis data.

  • The parameter called "Sizes" is the x-axis data for Number, Volume and Intensity histogram data. Each of these sizes is a bin for the histogram. So whether you want to export histogram data by number, by volume or by intensity, you MUST export Sizes as well!

  • The parameter called "Numbers" is the y-axis data for the histogram by number, and "Volumes" is the y-axis data for a histogram by volume, and of course "Intensities" is the y-axis data for a histogram by intensity.

  • Once you have exported both Sizes and Numbers, for example, you can make a bar graph plot using the values of Sizes as your x-axis and the values of Numbers as your y-axis.
